We have been invited out to Cape Town for Christmas. We don't want to blow the flight price on just a visit to Cape Town. Could we get a flight to another destination(s) with a stopover of 2-3 nights in Cape Town? If so, what would be the best destination(s) that doesn't involve major changes of time zone, resulting in dreadful jet lag?! Look forward to your replies.

Have a look at the map...... If you want Cape Town to be a "stop-over" on a flight from the UK, your final destination would have to be Antarctica. But they will have to build some airports and hotels there first :-)

If you have the budget you could stop off on the way there (or back) at Johannesburg and then carry on to the Kruger for a safari - but it will be pretty hot at that time of year.

Hi - When I say "just" Cape Town - it's a psychological thing - we have a long list of places we want to see before we die and Cape Town wasn't on it. (Sorry. Put it down to mental aberration!) Is Namibia do-able? I'm going to do a "Google", but someone out there may have done this sort of trip. Mind you, Namibia wasn't on our list either! So many places, so little time...

Add Namibia to your list. Make sure you go to Swakopmund. SAA has flights from Walvis Bay ( half and hour from Swakop) to Cape town. It is completely different from Cape town but equally spectacular. Spend the rest of the time in cape town.

If you want to add other destinations to your Cape Town trip, what about Victoria Falls? or Tanzania? Or the Indian Ocean islands?

Hello again! Well we're off to Cape Town for Christmas. Just for a week. Now looking at places to stay for 2 nights in Kruger National Park - south to keep away from the malaria. We're on a limited budget and whilst it would be nice to see the Big 5, we'd be happy in the great outdoors with the Little 5! Any suggestions for places to stay? We're not looking for luxury - but comfort and friendly people would be nice. Many thanks.

Kruger Park near Xmas? You are not going to have the luxury of many options because that is peak local holiday season. Better you call the park first and then see if they have space for you anywhere. My guess is that there might only be some space in the north. (first time I hear that malaria is less in the south?)

We just got back from a week's stay in Cape Town, and 3 nights in Kruger. Cape Town is absolutely gorgeous and the locals are warm and friendly. Except for the rain on the first 2 days we were there, weather's great! (Rain in Cape Town was a different experience for us :)) For us, one week in Cape Town is just about nice to enjoy the highlights of Cape Town - too short to include the Garden Route. 3 nights in Kruger was too short. An additional 2 nights would have been great. We went for the night and sunset drives and each drive was an exciting experience. Think we'll plan for another trip to Kruger - but we'd go in the colder months (May-Aug). No (less?) mosquitoes and shorter grass! If you're looking for accommodation in Kruger, check out this website. It lists the camps and availability of the camps for the period you intend to stay. Book soonest! sanparks.org/parks/kruger/to...
