Sure, You can take the train or bus. Bus costs 1 Eur one-way & takes 1.5 hours. Look around the marina, go up to the castle ramparts for views all over, grab a cocktail & some canapes and people-watch ;-)

Nice to Cannes by train takes less than 30 minutes. One-way fare is 5.40 euro for most departures. Services are very frequent indeed (several per hour). http://www.voyages-sncf.com/

The bus n° 200 is only 1 € but it takes around 2 hours to get from Nice to Cannes. If it's a TGV (need to book in advance), Intercités (need to book in advance) or a semi-direct train then it takes less than 30 minutes, otherwise it's around or a little more than a 40-minute trip. Train fares have been raised recently and an one-way ticket (regional train) to Cannes is now 6,40 €.

That's interesting. You mean the voyages-sncf.com website (in French) gave me the wrong fare when I checked this morning? One or two trains cost 6.40 euro but the majority I looked at were 5.40. It is very unusual for an official railway website to carry the wrong fare data.

There are 3 train stations in Nice: Nice Ville (main train station aka Gare Thiers), Nice Riquier and Nice Saint Augustin. The 5,40 € is an one-way fare from Nice Saint Augustin. I usually go to Cannes by train and fare is 6,40 € from Nice Ville station.

Thank you. That explains the difference. For some reason I did not scroll down to check the stations as I would normally have done. I notice that the voyages-sncf quotes 6.60 euro for the Nice Ville>Cannes fare. Is that the fare one would pay at the station?

6,60 € is a TVG reduced one-way fare. When you buy your ticket at Nice Ville station and choose the regional train (TER) fare, you'll pay 6,40 € (one-way ticket).
