Where to stay-Cannes or Nice

My wife, 13 yr old daughter & I will be staying 3-4 nights in Cannes/ Nice in August 13-16. Which town should we stay in. We cannot find any reasons to pick one over the other. We want to be near the beach but will have a car and to see the sights. We will take a day trip to Monnaco. Thanks.

    If you want to be near the beach, this implies to me that you want to go to the beach: in which case, Cannes has a sandy one, Nice does not (large pebbles or "galettes").
