What's the weather like at the end of April?

by bullnose Online Now Feb 11, 2007 at 9:32 AM

Going to Canet Plage for the last 2 weeks in April, using it as a base for having a look around, we want to see the sights Carcassone, etc. We were wondering what weather to expect. Googled it and the average is about 14deg C, so I guess it will be hot during the day cool at night? Am I right?

Since I'm from southern California, I probably have a different idea of "hot" than you do, but I would suggest the last two weeks of April it will probably be "warm" during the day and cooler during the night. Since you're from the UK, you may consider it hot. LOL I just checked Perpignan temps for this week and they are predicting 70s (Fahrenheit) during February. That's about the same as California right now. We've visited Canet-Plage during July and was nicely warm but not hot the two weeks we were there. April should be picture perfect. Layers of clothing work well. (Hot to us is above 95 Fahrenheit.) It's a gorgeous area. You should have a great time. I assume you know about the wonderful beach between Canet-Plage and St. Cyprien Plage? Lots to see in the area too. Visit Collioure if you haven't seen it. The local tourist bureau used to have a Cathar Site Pass that was a great deal. We managed to visit nearly every place on the Pass during our two-week stay. Have a good stay.

Cheers for that! I've been chatting to someone who went to Canet Plage in October, and they said it was basically closed... Do you know what its like in April regards tourism? Is April in high season??

The beach is an open beach. It can't be closed. The town may have a lot of places closed. I've never been there in April so I can't say. I do know a lot of vacation-type places have a lot of closings out of season. I'd say late April would probably be better than October simply because everyone is sick of winter and ready to explore summer things . . . even if it's not summer. When the weather warms up, people get out and about. As far as restaurants and tourist shops, possibly not. Any time you travel out of season, you have to accept the fact that all the tourist places will not be open. We do that and we're fine. There will be plenty of things open and lots to do. All the regular towns in the area will have restaurants open because people eat there. You might have to go shopping in regular shops for your souvenirs, but they are definitely authentic and probably cost less too. We do souvenir shopping in hardware stores and have gotten some great gifts! Don't expect beach crowds, but do expect company on the beach. People can't resist it in any season.

Peter, I just checked your Home Page and there are no links on it and you have no VT Travel Pages. I think you meant to say your "External Web Page" because I checked that too and it has everything anyone could want to know about Languedoc on it. For the OP, if you go to Peter's Home Page, right beside his picture is a listing of information and near the bottom of the list is a link to his External Web Page where you will find the above-mentioned links to Languedoc information . . . including wonderful weather information.
