I am planning to have an 30 years anniversary vacation with my wife in Cancun this September/2013. I've been reading all the review from all experienced travelers and most of them are involved with timeshare sale scam. Not only get into the scam and ruin the whole vacation for most of them which I feel very sad when reading it. After refused or withdraw from the scam deals, they were treated like a second citizens or bottom line tourist. We never get out of US since we married and love the beaches a lot. I've heard it's beautiful beaches and resorts in Cancun and wanted to have a great vacation with my love. But it's seem like unsafe with all the situation that I've seen from all the review. It's happened in most of the resorts there. Any advises is appreciated. I am thinking to travel with US might be safer? Thank you for any input.
I will be staying in Puerto Morellos for 8 days and on one of those days I'd like to visit Chichenitza, Vallodolid and a cenote.
Most tours seem to go to Ik Kil but I have read that the best cenote is Dzitnup. Which do you think are the best cenotes and and do you know of any tours which include Dzitnup, Chichenitza and Valloladid?
Or is it possible/easy to visit them in one day with public transport/taxi? How much does this cost?
Thanks in advance

Hello Friends, Is the information read by me in a news item is correct for exchange in Mexico? "As of June 21st, 2010 the banks will change only US$300.00 daily and up to US$1,500.00 in one month, that is per person and you have to show your passport to the teller" Also please let me know the best rate I get for USD from private/bank exchanges as on date. Thanks. essel.
Hi, my partner and I will be flying into Cancun on the 1st of Jan 2013 for 3 months of travelling in Mexico and nearby places. After a month or two of being a bit indecisive, we're currently planning/hoping to try to fly straight out to Cuba for 3 weeks or so - a few of our friends did this several years ago, and they said it was easy enough to book flights while in Cancun (either through local travel agents or at the airport). My question is, has this changed? Are we likely to run into any problems because it's so soon after NY? We got a great deal on return flights to Cancun from the UK, so that's why we're not flying direct to Cuba.
Hello, We are senior citizens from India. We want to visit Chichen Itza during January 2013 last week .Our plan is to travel from Houston (USA) to Cancun , stay at Cancun for 2 nights and visit Chichen Itza only .Can any one help us with the best and safe itinerary and likely cost from the time we land at Cancun. Any idea about Indian restaurants at this place? Thanks in advance.
I will visiting cancun for two days. Can anyone suggest a hostel or budget hotel? from 20- 50 USD will be ok. I don't mind if the place is a bit far from the beach area. Too busy to search the internet for hotel.
Hi! I'd like to know if the buses in the Hotel Zone and downtown Cancun only stop at the bus stops to load passengers. Or can you hail a bus almost anywhere on the street? Do you just wave your hand when you see the bus you want to get on? I know this sounds like a silly question, but there are cities that are very strict with this issue and others aren't. Thanks!
Hi! I am wondering what are the peak traffic hours in Cancun, since someone told me that 8 p.m. was the worse at night going from the Hotel Zone to the downtown area. What about in the mornings? I plan to stay in a downtown hotel and take the local buses to and from the Hotel Zone at different times. For example, if I plan to leave my hotel at 7:30 a.m. to go to Playa Delfines, would I find out that the buses are completely packed, and many won't stop for me? Would the ride be significantly longer that if I were riding at 10 a.m. for example? Thanks a lot!!
We arrive in Cancun airport at 8pm on Saturday Oct 6 and were hoping to go straight to Valladolid instead of spending a night in Cancun. We need to get to Valladolid that night and don't want to take a slow late night 2nd class bus. Can anybody recommend a car service or local driver with a taxi/car that may be willing to drive us to Valladolid? How much do you think a taxi at the airport would cost if I negotiated on the spot? -bb
Hi! We are going to Cancun on a mother-daughter trip, my daughter is 15, it's just the two of us. We will be staying at a hotel in downtown Cancun (close to the Las Americas mall). We want to go to several of the malls in the Hotel Zone, and we plan to take the buses. My question is: How safe will it be for her and I to take the bus back to our downtown hotel in the hours after dark? Is it safe for two women to take the bus at 8 p.m. on La Isla Mall, for example, and then get off and walk some blocks to the hotel? Thanks, this info. will help with our scheduling!
I am sure there are countless posts regarding the same questions so I apologize if I am repeating. My wife and I are taking our first trip to Cancun in 2 weeks and are staying in the hotel zone at Rius Palace. I’ve been looking online and am wondering if it would be possible in the same day to visit Chichen Itza and go snorkeling in a cenote. We are only staying in Cancun for 6 days so time is important. I’ve read that it is a 3 hour drive to Chichen Itza from the hotel zone. Is this true? If this is the case, would it make more sense to visit a closer ruins, like Tulum? I know it isn’t as old as Chichen but I’ve heard its beautiful and overlooks the ocean, and is a shorter drive from the hotel zone. Can anyone recommend a cenote to visit? And finally can anyone recommend a tour company? There are so many, and the prices vary so much it’s confusing. Thank you all for your input and have a great day!
Hello everyone!!! my husband and I will be going to cancun next week for the first time. Just some quick questions, has it been raining alot lately? Don't know if I should trust what I see on weather.com. 2nd question, when we go to eat at the buffets is it necessary to tip everyday we are there? I'm unsure of when not to tip and when to tip especially when it is an all inclusive resort. Thanks!
I usually go travelling on my off weeks for work. Im in my younger 20s and wondering what advice people can give, anything is appreciated if you have travelled. Anyways, i dont prefer resorts or all inclusive neccearily because im just a single guy looking for the culture, i try to stay somewhat cheap.Ive been to mexico 5 previous times but to resorts, and to the main attractions. Im more or less looking what there is for the "underground" activites that isnt an ad on tv. Id like to get to some good night life, any advice for cancun in the summer? Any good night life to reccomend? towns? or attractions? Good places to meet ladies i am single? haha My ideal vacation would be to have a room on the ocean, cheap drinks, gorgeous women all over. Help mee out.
hello, Im in cancun right now and tyo be honest i am quite dissapointed i thought the party zone is going to be much bigger... anyone knows if its only where coco bongo is? what about cancun downtown? any tips?
Hello, We are from Belgium and travelling in august to Mexico and we would like to pay a visit to a NGO located in Cancun. We have 5 children (4, 12, 14, 16 & 18years old) and we try to make them aware of "the reality outside the hotel life" when we go on holiday. We usually visits schools, villages, orphins etc. and we try to bring clothing and/or school suplies. Now, we are quite disappointed because the travel agency doesn't recommend to do this in Mexico as it could be dangerous... I find some organization on the net but it's difficult to judge from a distance and obviously we don't want to take any risk at all doing this with our children. Does anyone have any tips or experience regarding this? Thank you very much in advance Kind regards Karin
I am travelling to cancun and staying there 5days and 4nights. I have an option to stay at either Villa del Palmar in Playa Mujeres or @ JW Marriott @ Zone Hotelera. Per people reviews its better to stay at Zone Hotelera but for almost same price as Marriott I am getting 2 all inclusive ocean view rooms at Villa del Palmar (btw we are 4 people, my husband and my 20 and 17 yr old daughters w me) Vs at Marriott just 1 regular room w not all inclusive!! Now my question is about the beach, is it bad or good at villa del Palmar? According to pics it seems like a nice place and its only a year and half old. Can anyone please tell me if that resort is good or not. Also I understand it is a little far from the hotel zone but they have a shuttle that takes u to the mall and then from there we can take bus or taxi I think. The other option I was thinking to rent a car, so I need advice on that too. I am really hoping that resort all inclusive is really worth the money. I am hoping I will save some money on food and drinks!!! Thanks
Hey, so me and group of my friend are going to Cancun at 10th of June for two weeks, I was just checking the weather and I'm shocked ! I wasn't expecting any rain... Does anybody know how's the weather like then? I don't really trust weather forecast and I'm hoping if it's going to be raining it will be like a shower for an hour or two and then the paradise weather again? Also I've got a question about currency. We are travelling from London, but it seems like a lot of prices are in US dollars, should we exchange to US dollars or Mexican pesos? Does anybody know how much would a taxi cost from the airport to the hotel zone? we are staying at the intercontinental presidente, which is sort of in the right top corner of the hotel strip.
anyone know what a taxi would cost one way from cancun airport to a resort (the grand mayan) in puerto morelos? and is it safe for female to go alone in a cab that route? it will be during the day. thanks.
Hi, my husband and I are planning a trip for November. We need help to decide if we should go to Crown Paradise in Cancun or to Grand Riviera Princess in Riviera Maya. We want a hotel with great food, great beach, good service from staff and with activities...we don't have kids but we don't mind if there are some kids there. Please help. Thanks. Karine
i need some advice on renting a car in cancun. my friend and i will be staying at mayan palace in PDC. i know the resort is huge and we want to be able to get around ourselves to the ruins or the grocery store or wherever. seems like renting a car would be cheaper than getting a taxi everywhere since we'll be there a week. but i'm worried about 2 english speaking females renting a car and getting ripped off. does anyone have any suggestions as to what the best company is to go through? any tips on the process? can i book online through kayak or maybe even priceline? anyone have experience with this? thanks.
next month i will be in and out of cancun airport on a trip to playa del carmen. on arrival, are there atm machines readily available in the airport? always want to have some local currency. on departure, years ago, from mexico, we had to pay a departure tax - i can't remember whether it was in local currency or us dollars, but i do recall that credit cards were not accepted. is there still a departure tax and if so how much, which currency required. thanks, appreciate. n.
I'm asking this for a friend who simply refuses to get on an airplane, is there any way to get to Cancun without flying from the US? His brother decided to have a destination wedding there, not sure if the date is fixed yet but I think it's in August. I know that there are plenty of cruises that go out of Florida and probably also Texas but I don't think there are any that stay overnight and August is a really slow month for cruises, only 7 days with cruise ships. And that's to Cozumel, not Cancun. Are there any ferries? I can't find any references to any that go in 2012. I'm guessing driving would be pretty lengthy, 57 hours per Mapquest from Chicago!!!! Not to mention a little unsafe in parts, perhaps? So I'm out of ideas except for really heavy tranquilizers....
