Hi, I will be going to Cancun for the very first time in mid-January and I have booked a 4 night stay at an all inclusive resort at the GR Caribe Solaris. Turns out that it is one of those "timeshare" resorts..not sure if that was a good idea, but I figured that would be save me some money since I heard that Cancun prices are comparable to what you would pay in America. Oh well, what's done is done. I would like to go to Chichenitza, Tulum, maybe a snorkeling day trip, and swim with dolphins, and was wondering if there are any reputable tour companies that I could book with online, or is it better to book through the hotel? Only thing is that I don't want to be hounded by the timeshare salesmen. Also any recommendations for local eats and "must sees"? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
being in a 'timeshare' resort does not mean that you will be hounded by the salesman, and I think that probably all the bigger resorts there (and many other places) are timeshare. If you are approached by salesmen, there are a couple big disqualifiers right off the bat, which will divest you of them; one is if you are SINGLE, or don't have sufficient annual income (i.e., you could always tell them you are out of work and on holiday with someone else/parents, etc.) personally, I would book any day trips or activities at the hotel; but maybe someone else will have a different opinion or advice.
