Hi! Hawkhead kindly gave us the useful information on actual distance or number of kilometers. Can anybody please describe your road experience driving or riding from Canakkale to Troy to Alexandria Troas and to Assos? Or any one segment of that route? How are the road conditions? We are asking because we are in the process of streamlining our Trip due to limited time. We are trying to find out what we can include / exclude based on how long it may take us. Thanks. Sincerely, Leo C.
Hi! We are a pilgrimage group interested in following the Footsteps of Saint Paul. May we know how many kilometers (or driving time) it is from Canakkale to Troy (Truva), from Troy to Alexandria Troas (where Saint Paul stayed a few times), then from Alexandria Troas to ancient Greek Assos (Behramkale in Turkish)? Thanks. We'd appreciate any help. Sincerely, Leo C.
Hi. We are a group of 35, many of whom are elderly, on a tourist bus from Istanbul to Canakkale. ViaMichelin shows three possible ways, but only two are acceptable to us: the one that passes by the sea of Marmara (by boat mostly I presume) which will take 6hrs./12min; and the one mostly by motorway via Malkara, down to Canakkale with 217 miles altogether in 5hrs/41mins. Just by looking at the figures, we would prefer the one with shorter time. But which is the route often used by tourists, which may mean more convenient, and takes less time? Your advice is appreciated. Thanks. Sincerely, Leo. C.
Hi! We are a pilgrimage group interested in visiting places connected with Saint Paul. We plan to do this in October. We will be using a tourist bus. We plan to leave Canakkale, Turkey at 7 a.m. for Kavala. Since we will pass by the Greek border, how long do you think would be a tourist bus trip from Canakkale to Kavala? We appreciate very much your guidance on this as this will be our first time to do this.Thank you very much. Sincerely, Leo C.
Hi. We are a pilgrimage group planning to make this trip in October. We will be on a tourist bus. We plan to leave Istanbul at 7:00 A.M. and depart for Canakkale with a brief stop in Gallipoli. We plan to have lunch in Canakkale. Our goal is to explore ancient city of Troy, especially the places connected with the visits of Saint Paul. There we plan to celebrate Holy Mass. Then we go back to Canakkale for the overnight stay. May we ask for your critique of this trip? Or suggestions with the amount of time we have. Thank you so much!
Dear all, I am planning to get married in Canakkale. My wife is American and she is very much interested in having something very different. We are planning to either get married in Muslim way or christian way (no difference for us). Our marriage is VERY small and is only me and her. We want to find a good church or a mosque to just conduct the marriage ceremony. Can any one give any contact to local church or local mosque? Any idea would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
I'd like to know if there are buses from Izmir to Assos. If so, how long it takes? And from Assos to Bursa, is it a long journey by bus? Any interesting cities along the way? I was thinking of going to Bergama by bus, from Izmir, but it looks complicated. Thank you for any input. wib
Hello, I am leading an educational tour of Greece and Turkey during mid-March. After our visit to Troy, we have an afternoon at the beach scheduled. Will it be warm enough for the beach in March? Would there be other things of interest if the weather did not permit this activity? Thanks, Marilyn
Hi -- we are planning on staying at Canakkale and of course going over to Gallipoli. We are most interested in Anzac Cove and the Salt Lake. If we would like to hike around those areas in one day, what is the best approach? We are not interested in a tour but would rather just like to hike on our own. Thanks!
how close is the trojan horse to hisarlik citadel?

Hi All! Coming across Turkey by kayak last year I only made it to Gazikoy near Tekirdag. I will be completing my trip this year but need some help with possible accommodations. There are places to stay in Sarkoy, I guess, and I know there are in Gelibolu and Ecebat but what about Ulgarderekoyu or Kazanagzi? I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a room or even a campground would do. Otherwise I will have to rough camp. Anyone with any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I am planning a short stay in Behramkale after midSeptember and then go down more South as far as probably Kusadasi. Will the sea still be warm enough for swimming and snorkeling? My plans are flexible and can be changed if I get a good advise here. Previously I have visited Mediterrian islands untill midOctober and it was ok, however, the coast might be different. Looking forward to hear from experts!
the half day trip to gallipoli from cannakkal cost 60 dollars. so i thought i would get a early ferry across to Eceabat (2dollars )then bus to kabatepe( one dollar) and walk to anzac cove on a early start . after catching the 8 am ferry and arriving at 8.30 in Eceabat. the Eceabat bus was waiting so i leapt aboard eager to begin. 2 hours later i was still waiting for the bus to leave.there were 3 other passengers aboard.so we waited for the 9 am ferry to leave cannakele. at 9.30 am it arrived and still not enough passengers so we waited for the next ferry. by this time it was too late to travel so i jumped aboard and went back. is there any other way of getting to anzac cove cheaply?
Hi! I may possibly have one extra day on arriving in Canakkale and before returning to Istanbul. Is it possible to go to Cappadocia, see something, and return to Canakkale in one day? I heard there is a night bus. How long does it take? Thanks, Beth
Hi! After crossing the sea of Marmara by kayak this fall I will pass Canakkale before my final day to the lighthouse at Kum Burnu near the ruins of Achilleion. My problem is how to get back to Istanbul. I know there is a plane from Canakkale but is there a bus or train? Is there some kind of transportation from somewhere near the lighthouse to Canakkale? Thanks
Hi all, I am planning a trip to Bozcaada. It has been so long since I last been there. Can you recommend a place (relible for a female) to stay? Thanks a lot
I am visiting Canakkale, Turkey and would like to know what there is to do. Also, I have heard that one can take a camel ride. Is this true and do they spit at you for pulling their tails? In all honestly, what is there to do?
Are there English speaking tour guides available for hire at the entrance of the Troy archeological site? We will be arriving by car. I've read that the site is confusing without a guide to explain what you are seeing.
I want to know what a taxi fare should cost from the ferry terminal on Gokceada Island to the main village, also known as Gokceada. I'm told that the taxi drivers really try and rip you off for the ride from ferry to town (about 7 or 8km). thanks
Every year my friend and I visit a different battlefield. We have travelled to some fascinating places and made some great friends. In 2007 we want to spend a week in Gallipoli. We prefer to travel independently. How easy is for two UK nationals top get to the peninsula, find a hotel and travel around? Is car hire feasible? Any advice would be appreciated. Phil Curme(www.walkingthebattlefields.com).
Does anyone know if the lighthouses of Imroz and Bozcaada were shelled during World War One?

Hi! I'm a VT member from Romania and I'll have a trip through Turkey during the month of August. We'll be traveling by car from Cannakale to Kusadasi, on the coast. Would be very much appreciated if someone could reccomend any places on the way that would worth a quick stop. Places such historical sites, traditional villages, or sight-view places. Also, we'll be staying in Kusadasi for 7 days and we're thinking of going around to some "off the beaten path" special places such isolated beaches, cristal clear water places for snorkeling, in other words that kind of nice places that not everybody is aware of. We are young (around 33) and looking after getting the best out of this trip. In return I can provide similar information from Romania. Also, we might consider paying a guide, but please notice that we are not rich or extravagant people. Thank you in advance, Tibi
