Hi -- we are planning on staying at Canakkale and of course going over to Gallipoli. We are most interested in Anzac Cove and the Salt Lake. If we would like to hike around those areas in one day, what is the best approach? We are not interested in a tour but would rather just like to hike on our own. Thanks!
hiking in both Anzac and Suvla (=salt lake area) is impossible in one day. if you have only one day it is best to concentrate on anzac. to get to the battlefield you will still need some transportation (taxi) to drop you off in the morning and pick you up in the evening. also in your case it is better to stay in eceabat (closer to the battlefields) than in çanakkale. TJ's and crowded house are 2 (basic) hotels there. ideal for battlefield walkers is the "gallipoli houses" as it is the closest to the battlfields.
