      Public/private transportaion Anacapri to Ravello

      Campania Jun 9, 2013 at 2:03 PM

Hi we need to change hotels from Anacapri to Ravello this July and wondering what the best way to go about getting from A to B would be. May want to stop in Positano to look around if there is someplace to stash our luggage for a few hours like a locker or willing hotel porter service. We'd rather not spend an arm and a leg on private cars, at least for most of the trip, but we also don't want to go crazy with packed-in sweaty public transport either. Any advice?
      Thanks!

Hi! We are a family of four who will travel from Perugia to the Amalfi Coast, but we plan to quickly visit Naples and Pompei. We will be travelling by car at this point. Any recommendations on where to stay? In Naples, closeby?? In large cities, I prefer taking public transportation, so a hotel or apartment close to bus or metro stops would be interesting for us. Thanks!

Hi all, my husband and I are planning a trip to Sorrento in mid-end July. Coming from Ireland neither of us are used to the heat and I have been told in the past that the temperatures can become unbearable. Can any of you give me some advice on this?? We are hoping to do a lot of touring to the many attractions nearly and I am wondering will it be a wasted trip and will I end up staying indoors for the whole time we are there!!

If anyone has been to Sorrento at this time of year and can tell me the temperatures they had while there and whether it is a dry heat. Surely being by the coast there would be a breeze??

      Pompeii + Vesuvius

On the one hand going up Vesuvius also can be hot, but on the other it is a little bit colder up there. So the question is ; what should I start with Pompeii or Vesuvius?
May be there is something else that I should take into account? May be crouds of other tourists coming by bus-excursions? Where they are more likely and at what time?

    • Amalfi coast - hotel parking

      Amalfi Apr 17, 2013 at 6:24 AM

Of course I understand that parking is difficult and the Amalfi coast roads are narrow etc. But - since we also have intended to spend some time outside this area, for example visiting famous gardens and visiting some vineyards - a car seems to be an interesting option...

So - do any of you have ideas of where would be good places to stay a) in Sorrento b) on the Amalfi coast. The intention of ours has been to spend 4-5 days divided into two stays at different sites.

Nice hotels with neighborhoods where one can find restaurants, perhaps avoiding 10.000 steep steps every single days. Parking would be a good option, ie. to be able to be able to use the car whenever you need and have the parking spot when you arrive back from an excursion etc.

Or - would you still recommend skipping the car, using the bus system and fully enjoy the car-free life and skipping all the vine tastings & garden visits on the way to/from Rome?

I don't want to risk just showing up to the ruins and hoping a group guided tour is available. Thank you!

      Naples Neighbourhood

      Naples Apr 4, 2013 at 10:58 AM

      Hi everyone.

My husband and I will be in Naples for four nights in September. I feel like I need some advice on which would be the best neighbourhood(s) for us to stay in. We're in our late 20s and have traveled extensively in Italy and Europe, but never been to Naples. I'm not paranoid, but I am aware of Naples' reputation, so would like to stay in a neighbourhood where I feel safe. From what I gather, I shouldn't stay around the train station, and maybe not even in the Centro Storico?

We will be visiting the Archeological Museum, and will be taking a day trip to Mt. Vesuvius. We will probably also go to Pompeii again.

      Thanks in advance!

      Accom for 6-8 adults

      Sorrento Apr 3, 2013 at 12:46 PM

I'm going to be staying in Sorrento for a couple of nights with my husband, in-laws, and two family friends. Another aunt and uncle may be coming as well. The two of us will be there for two nights and everyone else will be there for an additional 1-2 nights.

We would, of course, all like to stay in the same place. We are open to hotels, B&Bs, or self catering apartments.

Maximum budget is 150EUR a night but of course if it's a little less, that's ok, too ;)

I'm only used to booking accoms for two people, so could use a little help for the bigger group booking! Any suggestions?

      Thank you!

      Visiting Vesuvius from Sorrento

      Sorrento Mar 28, 2013 at 3:54 AM

      Hi VT people

My fiancee and I are spending a week in May in the Sorrento area. We have booked a villa in Nerano (about 16km from Sorrento) and plan to visit Capri and Pompeii whilst there. I particularly want to get up close to Vesuvius though. There are guided tours from about £150 for 2 people where you can see Pompeii and Vesuvius in the same day but would it be easy to DIY the experience? I know getting to Pompeii is very easy and cheap but I've read it is a pain to then go on to Vesuvius without a private driver. Is it worth the extra money for the full tour?

      Cheers

      Jimmy

Also, he was an extreme wine enthusiast. Is there a way to have a special wine made in his name or a vinyard named after him?

Here is the problem: where can we store our luggage if we stop in Pompeii just for the tour and head back to sorrento late afternoon? I would think other travelers have run into this issue as well?
