Visiting Cairo's al Qarafa (City of the Dead)

I wonder if someone of the people living in Cairo could accompany me to the City of the Dead (late January). I will be traveling alone, and feel a bit uncomfortable about going to this reputedly fascinating area. I would also like to visit Medina Zebela nearby. Thank you in advance!
