Hello all, i'm flying from Malaysia(Kuala Lumpur) to Germany(Frankfurt) on 11.7 and I will have 10 hours free to wait for the transit flight. I would like to have a transit tour to see Cairo. The problem is I will be arriving at 5.40am something, and my flight to Germany will be at 15.40. I do really wanna go to have a brief look at the pyramids, the Sphinx, or maybe just to see the people and the architecture in Cairo. I have only limited budget as I am just an ordinary student. Anyway I can still afford to pay a taxi for 75++EGP(is this the rate of two years ago?) from Cairo International Airport to Giza. I would like to ask if it is easy to catch the airport shuttle bus at 6am something or a taxi to the pyramids? How long does it take? I checked the sights only open after 8 or 9. Do I have enough time to rush back from pyramids to Cairo International Airport? Is it possible for me to catch a taxi or any transportation easily to go back to the airport? And do I have to pay for a transit visa to enter Egypt? I appreciate your concern and your help very much. This is also my first time to travel abroad. I read some reviews of the airport, mostly are 'thumbs up'. So I hope it will not be a hustle for me. To see the pyramids and the Sphinx can say to be one of my dreams. I don't wanna miss this chance to make it come true. I hope you can help me to give me some suggestions and useful tips. Thank you, sincerely. ps: I don't understand Arabic..English ist ok but I read that it's not so useful to communicate with the taxi drivers. Is that true?
I think you have enough time to get there and back as long as you plan Firstly I would get in touch with the manager at Bluecabs http://www.thebluecab.com/index.html He wil give you a price for pick up from the airport and take you to the Pyramid gates in Giza and then to collect you again (at a given time) to take you back to the airport...allow plenty of time for this as the roads are MENTAL!!! and you dont pay until you are safely back at the airport again... The tickets to go inside the Pyramid area in Giza is 60 L.E .. to go inside the Great Pyramid of Cheops it is a 100 L.E extra and to go inside the smaller third pyramid of Mekrenus it is 30 L.E...for the solar boat museum it is 50 L.E you must buy all the tickets you want at the gate before you go in as they are not sold at the pyramids or museum...you will be expected to put on overshoes in the museum and they gurds will 'pretend' these need to be paid extra for dont fall for it...its about the only thing in the place that there isnt a charge for belive me! The hawkers and salespeople and touts and camel drivers and donkey owners are a pain the proverbial...learn to say LA SHUKRAN loudly and waggle your index finger at the floor...it helps a bit

m.bahaa@@usa.net Contact him! He will meet you at the airport and take you around the places you want to see. Tell him how much money you can spend. As far as I know just a visit to the Pyramids is possible during the time you have to spend. And you will need a visa when leaving the airport to enter Cairo. It will cost you 15 USD.

From my experience the more money the better, my logic was always carry less clothes and more money. You have no idea... more
