I'll be going to Egypt in December of 2003. Can anyone tell me if it is absolutely necessary to have vaccines entering Egypt and which ones. The tour operator tells me that I can wait to obtain my visa once I get to Cairo which is only 15 dlls per person, however he tell s me that the line at the airport is very long. Anyone has some info on this one too? Thanks a million Alexandra

I know the line in Hurghada, it is always very long and overcrowded. I would prefer a visa in advance. Have a nice trip

We were met at the gate and paid for our Visa there. Took no time at all. They looked at our passports, then gave us the Visa. It was 20US, we arrived Sept 16, 2003. We got vaccines as suggested by the CDC and WHO. But, they are not necessary or required, unless you come from an area considered a high Yellow Fever Risk.

On Cairo International Airport it is very easy to obtain a visa, it takes no time at all! Your travel agent will guide you through it! Only15! I never had vaccinations for Egypt, although now there is a warning in our country (Holland) that there is a higher risk at Hepatitis A in Egypt. Love, Dora.

It is a good idea to take vitamin B12 tablets daily for about 2 weeks before you go. This helps to stop mosquito bites. Other vaccines depend on the area's you are visiting, and you'r doctor can check this. We got our visa in advance, and we are glad we did. The queue was very long. But we went in March. Hope you enjoy you'r trip. We found it fantastic and friendly, cant wait to return.

We were in Cairo in late Februari! No problems!! No que's! We were out the Airport within five minutes!!! But I need to say that during that time tourism was collapsing due to the threat of the Iraq war! I will be going to Egypt again next Saturday. We will be arriving late at night, but I will keep you posted about the que's and the price of a visa! Love, Dora.

Sorry, but the answer about the vitamin B12 to stop mosquito bites is a complete myth. For Egypt it is not a problem, but if one travels into a high-risk area for malaria such advice may prove to be fatal.
