Trip from Salzburg to Mondsee

Hi, my wife and I will take a day round trip from Salzburg to Mondsee and a day round trip from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden in early September. Could anybody tell me what is the most convenient and economical way of excursion, by bus by train? If by bus, where can i buy the ticket (from driver? from counter?)? Price? A day pass covering the round trip and all commuting of train/bus, boat possible? Many thanks.
