hey everyone, i am going to be in Wiener Neustadt from late August till December with a college exchange program from Dublin Ireland. i am a keen snow boarder/ skier, and was wondering when is the earliest this area of Austria gets snow? also area the closest ski mountains in semmering, stuhleck and hirschenkogel? which of these would be the best area? any information on these areas including wiener neustadt would be great as i know very little and am finding it hard to gather info. thanks very much and i hope to hear soom replies cheers Sam
maybe in beginning of Nov. you might get snow at Semmering, BUT I had been there in January 2007 and it was totally free of snow, except a small track that was obviously prepared with artificial snow and the lift was running. In 2005/06 it was maybe 1 meter of snow and extremely cold all the winter, in 2006/07 it is now really warm and almost no snow at all...

Despite of this abnormal winter there should be snow at least at the piste, because they are able to use snow cannons...

If you use the "Einfach Raus" ticket (get it at a ticket machine or at a ticket counter) the best train leaves at 9.18... more
