We are a couple in early 50s and like local travel experiences.
Wanted: 3-4 star clean hotel. Must have nice pool and breakfast and within walking distance of local eateries.
Not Wanted: 5 star western luxury, shopping malls and western restarants
Something like Grand Margherita Kuching
I will travel 4 weeks in Malaysia (only Peninsula) starting on 29 November. I would like to practice snorkel (not scuba dive).
Do you know 4 snorkel sites (sunny in December)?
The weather on east side, is it really bad in December?
Is there a directory website of hostel in Malaysia?
Thanks and regards.

We recently stayed at 2 suites at the Pacific Regency in Kuala Lumpur. The service was good, and the rooms were beautiful. But we found numerous problems with the plumbing in both suites; no hot water in bath sink in one suite, shower handle came off in another suite, etc. If we reported a problem, they fixed it right away. But we eventually gave up reporting them.
Is this a common problem in Kuala Lumpur? Or did we just get unlucky? This was a 5 star hotel. In budget hotels in Thailand we lived with plumbing/maintenance issues as a matter of course.
Hi, we are getting married next September and looking to travel to Borneo for 2-3 weeks for our honeymoon. Would like to spend some time relaxing at the beginning to recover from all the excitement, some time with the wildlife (including some diving, and maybe kayaking), then some more time chilling at the end.
I have looked at several companies that specialise in arranging such trips, but wondered if anyone had experience of organising themselves, and how easy/feasible this is?
Also, any must see experiences while we're there? :)
Thanks a lot
during Xmas I am taking my 15 years old brother to the trip around Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia. The parents will not be accompanying us.
Does anybody have an experience on what documents might be required by immigration officers of these countries beyond passport and notarized consent of the parents?
I am obviously trying to get official info from the embassies in parallel but would appreciate a word from somebody who already went through this.
We like to eat locally when travelling. Can we bring beer and wine to local restarants and if licensed are the prices of beer and wine western?
I am aware that some are Muslim so no alcohol applies bt what about the Chinese Malay and Indian restauranta?

What is the best way to get to Penang?
They have a hotel booking at Batu Ferringhi.
Are there taxis and / or buses available to meet the train at that hour? If so, is it best to take a taxi / bus direct to Penang, or travel via the Butterworth ferry terminal? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
