Advice sought re warm clothing

by tathraman Online Now Jan 12, 2012 at 12:48 PM

Hi everyone! I'll be cruising in south South America late March/early April and don't want to pack heavy warm gear as I'm flying from Australia. Perhaps a silly question, but here goes - is such clothing available at sensible prices? :)

you've written inside buenos aires forum....
you won't need heavy warm clothes in buenos aires in April/March, it use to be warm/pleasent to hot those months.
btw last Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue has been quite hot, close to 40C, I was there..

I meant it for this forum - what I want to know is can I readily buy warm clothing in Buenos Aires at reasonable prices?

    'sorry .. I misunderstood
sure.. but actually I do not remember the name of shops, there are some at Once area.
I remember it's possibile also to hire jackets and shoes, this is quite common, lot of people going to S.America don't want to bring warm clothes and heavy shoes for few days in the South Patagonia.
I lost of my links changing PC but using google it's possible to find where.

In Buenos Aires there is an area called Calle Avellaneda which in about a fifty block radius has nearly 2,000 clothing stores. Just about everything is sold there. The quality isn't necessarily the best and a lot of the stores sell junk but the prices are excellent if you look around. Clothing is offered at either por mayor (bulk wholesale) or por menor (retail prices) in the shop windows. Check and see if your cruise ship offers tours to the area or somewhere close by where you can do some shopping.

Great - that sounds like the answer I need. We're having 3 days in Buenos Aires before the ship leaves so we'll have plenty of time to look around.
    Thank heaps.

Just curious - are you heading to Antarctica? Your dates are similiar to our own and you mentioned a ship... we are aboard the M/V Ushuaia.

No - we're on Veendam which goes around the Horn and up the West Coast to New York. Enjoy the Antarctic - I hope one day to be able to afford to go!
