I am going to Buenos Aires (in a 9 day tour of southern Uruguay, Buenos Aires and Iguazu Falls) in January and can only take a small suitcase. Do you have any advice on the essentials (ie: type of clothing to pack, and other things I might not think of?
Hi there! January is a good time to come to Buenos Aires, as many of the local so-called "Portenos" have left the city, so it is not so hectic here. It will however most likely be very very hot. Bring lightweight clothes, cotton probably is best, that can easily be washed and dried quickly. Bring sunscreen, as the ozone layer here is quite thin and the sun dangerous, and being a hat. Some kind of wrap that you can wrap around your legs if you are wearing shorts and some sort of light shawl to put on your shoulders in case you decide to go into a church or cathedral--out of respect. Also, the best currency to bring is the US dollar, or the Euro. Many places do not accept these currencies in the stores, but now there are alot of places to change money. Also, make sure to carry your valuables in a money belt hidden beneath your clothing and never flash too much money around on the street. It is safe here if you use common sense. For Iguassu Falls, perhaps bring an insect repellent in case there are mosquitos, and bring a sweater or something as occasionally it can be cool in Punta del Este, Uruguay. It is rare, but could happen. If you have any other questions, let me know and have a great time! Wade

Braless is not the way to go at the Iguassu Falls unless you like the 'Wet T-Shirt' look! You will get absolutley soaked by the mist if you plan to approach the falls up close. Come prepared!

Thanks Wade.... I will remember your advice! The shawl idea is perfect ... and the reminder about insect repellant (as well as everything else). I usually do get eaten alive... Cheers Laurie-Ann PS I do plan to bring ear plugs for BsAs since I hear it can be noisy at night (good noise, but when tours start early, its best to be prepared)

Thanks Tim I needed that laugh. Since its nearly winter here in Ottawa (Canada), its getting hard to locate a light rain jacket for Iguazu, but I do have a rain slicker that I was given in Niagara Falls (another great waterfall that I've seen countless times). I absolutely love waterfalls, and I have to admit, Iguazu was my original draw to Argentina. However, BsAs intrigues me and I'm sure I'll fall in love with it! Cheers Laurie-Ann

The advice you've already been given is good. I would only add that portenos are VERY well-dressed and style-conscious: bear that in mind! And enjoy the trip!
