Since you are flying Ryan then you should be arriving at Terminal 1. The trains into the city from here will still be running - roughly every 20 minutes with a 20 minute journey time - to Nyugati station. From there you can walk or get a taxi - use the official ones from outside the station.

It seems that Terminal 1 (the nice old marble communist airport building)is being closed and all flights are using T2. shame. This link to the airport site may help: bud.hu/english/passengers/ac...

Didn't realise T1 is closing down. Yes in that case get the shuttle - it'll take you to your hotel.

Thank you for the tips. I have found the link and will pre-book our shuttle. Does the shuttle wait at a certain spot? Does the driver hold a card with our names? Menial questions I know but first time there, late at night and don't want to get lost!!! Thanks again in advance

Yhe driver comes into arrivals and calls the hotels that he is dropping off at - there are usually several shuttles covering different areas.

If you're staying at Hotel Central Basilica in Hercegprimas utca 8 (that means district 8 of Budapest, like the arrondisements of Paris), the hotel offers a shuttle site, advertised on its website. You can contact them directly about transport. Otherwise, I found the airport info counter staff to be friendly and helpful, and our prebooked shuttle picked us up within 20 mins of approaching the counter. We were directed to step just outside the door when it arrived. I found the whole process easier than in my hometown, of similar population.

Hercegprímás street 8. is very near to Arany János utca (utca=street) metro station. If you can leave the airport at 22:15, you will go to Kőbánya-Kispest junction by bus 200E (departs: 22:17,22:37, and last bus: 22:52), and you can change to metro 3, that directly takes you to Arany János street. Not longer than 1 hour journey. (After the last 200E, you can leave the airport by night service bus 900, that have a connection to bus 950, that also have a stop at Arany János street.)
