Budapest to Cesky Krumlov and Warsaw

by adasyau Online Now Jun 22, 2012 at 11:37 PM

Hi, please give help and advice on my travel plan. I'll travel solo on 1 August from Budapest to Cesky Krumlov and here is my route. 9:10 train to Vienna. Then a JIFI shuttle bus at Wien Westbanholf to CK at 12:30. Arrive Ck 3:30. (total cost: 50 euros) 1.Would anyone have other less expensive but not too time-consuming alternatives? I haven't booked the shuttle bus yet. 2. I tried to buy the train ticket online MAv-start but can't read the czech language when it comes to payment. How can I do that? I won't use any railpass. I'll stay one night in CK, then take Student Agency bus to Prague. After 2 days in Prague, I plan to take the overnight train to Warsaw. I tried to book a sleeper compartment for 1 person. Can't do that with IDOS or Raileurope (only 2nd class seat -- 180 euros!) Is it possible to get a ticket 1-2 days in advance in Prague?

    2. Just buy your ticket from the station ticket office in Budapest. I had no problem buying my ticket (I have no Hungarian) but if you are worried just write down where you want to go. Perhaps even use a phrasebook/dictionary (or even googletranslate) to translate 'I want a ticket to Cesky Krumlov please' into Hungarian and show that to the ticket office person. Whether or not you have a Eurail pass is irrelevant. It is possible that IDOS/Raileurope are only offering you a seat because all sleeping accommodation is sold out for that date. Sleeping accommodation is always limited and you are travelling in the high season. I can't advise about whether it is possible to get a sleeper reservation whilst in Prague itself, but I think if any were available they will show on IDOS/Raileurope. Raileurope does offer me a double sleeper for 1st August 2213 departure at a cost of 110 euro. The compartment id single-gender if you are travelling alone.

Sorry...my error. I was using the UK version of Raileurope. You are quite correct that the Hong Kong version of Raileurope does not offer you sleeper accommodation. I have absolutely no idea why this is the case, except that Raileurope is only a ticketing agency. It may already have sold its quota of sleeping accommodation for Hong Kong citizens, or for whatever reason has chosen not to offer sleeping accommodation on this route to Hong Kong citizens.

Thanks, leics. I'll try the Raileurope English site!

You can try it but I suspect that when you come to pay it will 'know' you are from HK and will thus redirect you. I think that is because when you use a credit/debit card you have to pay in the legal currency of that card. Raileurope.co.uk charges in GBP. I'm also not sure if Raileurope will send tickets bought on the UK site to other countries. But I may be wrong and will keep my fingers crossed for you! :-)
