Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Heroes Square

by GentleSpirit Online Now Jun 8, 2012 at 3:11 PM

I am finding somewhat contradictory information about this. The Tomb of the Unknown in the center is apparently unguarded. However, when i was there in Sept 2010 there was a sentinel guarding the tomb, and there were no state visits that i know of. I know that some of the ceremonial units have been changed around that time Is the Tomb of the Unknowns now permanently guarded by military sentinels?

In July, 2010 when we went, it was not guarded. A lovely area to wander about.

This says there is an honour guard on holidays: countries-of-europe.com/?p=1... If there was one in September, perhaps they were practising for National Day on 23 October - or perhaps he was a left-over from St. Stephen's Day on 20 August..
