how can I reach bus and train stations from the airport by public transport?
There are several train stations and the two airport terminals are quite far apart. However you will find fully comprehensive and up-to-date information on my Budapest page which is probably the best resource here on the web. If you don't understand anything please reply here or VTmail me. Here's the page: Budapest Transportation Tips by johngayton

hi Keti! :) John I checked your tips, also the Katalina's links. It seems we have to go to Keleti train station to catch a train to Eger. 1.I saw there are different prices depending on the type of train (direct, intercity etc) but is there any difference if we book in advance? 2.do we really have to buy tickets in advance? we'll be there on august 6, is there any possibility not to find tickets? I dont want to book in advance because you never know what happens if we have plane delays etc 3.I'm not sure what we have to do to reach Keleti station from Terminal 2. Is it better to go to Terminal 1 by bus where there is a train station or is there a faster way from Terminal 2?

Hi no need to book in advance. If you take the bus to terminal 1 and get the train into Nyugati station there is an International ticket office there whose staff are very helpful. From Nyugati you can take the Metro to Keleti (I think you have to change lines at Deak Ferenc - check the map on bkv.hu) Both stations have Metro access. I don't know if you know Tim Vale? (budapest8 here on VT) He lives just outside Budapest and knows the transport system much better than I do and is always willing to help VT members with queries and so you could always VT mail him if needed.

All your questions are answered here in Forum. just take the 200E bus to Ferihegy1 or Liszt Ferenc1 and either wait for a train into town or stay on the bus to the end stop of the Metro Kobanya Kispest. Is just as simple or simpler than Athens transport so you should have no problems. Just relax a bit when you arrive and go with the flow. Even getting a taxi from the airport to Keleti can cost around 20 to 25 Euros depending on if you call a number yourself or use Fötaxi which cost a little more. Eger is a wonderful place so you should enjoy your stay there. Hungary is much cheaper than Greece so is a country one can splurge a bit. Train tickets can be bought from the Tourist Info desk at airport 1, maybe airport 2. Just get out some cash from the ATM when you arrive in the airport. Enjoy your stay. The more you leave to chance, the more contact you will have with Hungarians.
