I'll be visiting Brussels with to friends this May. We'll arrive around 2-3 pm in the afternoon and stay one night, and plan to leave early in the morning the next day. What are the "must-sees"? Is Brussels the best town to stop in Belgium? We're driving from Denmark to Normandy, so we chose to stop in Amsterdam and Brussels, as none of us have been here before. Where should we stay? We'll be driving in my car, so we need a place, where the car can be parked safely. Preferably a hotel with own garage / parking facilities.
good place for one night in Delirium tremens: take a look on my VT page on Brussels... enjoy...

Most people would have a look around the lovely buildings of the grand Place and of course the nearby statue of the little boy peeing. I would also recommend the atonium which is odd and different.

I stayed at Thon; see: "Hidden behind the Sheraton" - Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre Tip by pieter_jan_v Like I advised for Amsterdam, this is located at the inner city ring of Brussel; maybe the easiest to find and to travel to in your car. Be aware that most hotels, Brussels as well as Amsterdam have good weekend deals and higher prices during the working week. PJ

I advice u to stay at the Ibis Hotel at the Grand Place, nice, comfy, budget and clean Hotel, very recommendable : ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-1046-... So, 1st, u will not have a car park problem, 2nd, u will be VERY close to all attractions such as restaurants, souvenir shops, bars, buying chocolate, eat yummy waffles, see Grand Place at night as lighted and take photos etc ... :) As u say, u have just the night after 3pm, in this case u will still have time after parking ur car and staying at Ibis, till midnight, as all those above mentioned will be in walking distance for ur convenience ... Or, another option is that u directly drive to Atomium w ur car as u reach Brussels, and after ur visit u go to Hotel to check in and park ur car, in this case I estimate that ur arraival to hotel will be about 6pm, which still gives u time to enjoy the Grand Place and surrounding area ... Happy Travels and have a nice time in Brussels ... :)

Must sees would be Grand Place, Sablon, Royal palace/park area. I would skip the Atomium - not worth the trip out of town. For shopping, good places are Avenue Louise or Rue Dansaert. Brussels has loads of good restaurants, but I would avoid the very touristy area around the Grand Place. For places to stay, here are few ideas that are a bit off the beaten track and have good prices - bestofbrusselsblog.com/2012/...
