Hello all!
I am moving to London on a 2 year working visa in July and am wondering whether I should take a suitcase or a backpack over? I would be staying in hostels until I could find a share house to move into. Not sure which would be more practical?
Thanks
I have just moved to Brisbane and am staying in Nundah temporarily. I have just had an interview for a job in Carindale, I was not intending to look for work anywhere other than the CBD or Northside as my sister lives North and I am more familiar with this side of the river. But jobs proved hard to find and I had to cast the net a bit further! So, I am wondering what the best thing would be to do if I did get this job - Where to live and transportwise what would be cheaper.
Should I live on the Southside and commute by public transport or car, OR stay North so im closer to my sister and the city for social convenience, and drive over toll bridges to get to Carindale. I had to get a train and bus today, which was fine but it took an hour! And would cost about $10 return I think, with a GO card.
Tolls, GO card charges, commute time, social life, working around the Brisbane river its all a bit of a logistical nightmare haha.
Basically I just want to be within about half an hour of work, dont mind paying a little for transport costs - I will be working in the westfield mall so I doubt I could park right at work anyway, bus would be an option or park somewhere free and walk. Don't have a car at moment but will get one once job is sorted.

I am wondering if anyone out there knows of any restaurants in Brisbane with small private dining rooms where one eats the from the same menu as the rest of the restaurant? My husband and some colleagues have had a dinner meeting once per month to discuss work related issues at Two Small Rooms for many years. Their private room was perfect suiting about 6 - 8 people. Sadly it is closing in another week or so. I have been googling but can only find places with function rooms. I am looking for somewhere within about 5 or so km of CBD. Many thanks to you all in advance.
Hi, Hubby and I are thinking about going to Brisbane for NYE next year or the year after ... and would appreciate any tips for which hotels would have the best rooms with a balcony (big enough to sit out there hopefully with a table) with the best view of the fireworks along the river. Price is not an issue. Thanks in advance!
We can spend a total of six days either in Port Douglas/Cairns area or 4 days in Port Douglas/Cairns and fly to Brisbane for 2 days. We are considering Brisbane because my husband prefers more cultural life than beaches, etc. Our trip also includes a week in Sydney and 4 days in Melbourne. I would like some suggestions on things to do in Brisbane that are unique--eg. art museums, historical places, and other cultural events. We will be there in the beginning of March. SciKaren

Are there any left luggage facilities at Roma St. railway station?
HI Will be in Brisbane in early Dec for short transit. Arrive 1900 on 04/12, depart 0245 on 07/12, basically will have 2 full days. Plan to have 1 day out of brisbane (gold coast or other - not decided yet) and the last day at Brisbane CBD. Not planning to do much other than sightseeing. If any of you could propose the must see sights, please do! On the last day, 06/12, we will need to check out by noon. Therefore, we need to find a left luggage place within CBD. May I know if there is any such place in CBD and the rate per hour if possible? perhaps at Roma Street station (or other centrally)? I've googled the info but I can't reach the conclusive answer..some said yes, there is such service in Roma Street Station, while others said no. Thanking all of you in advance! Ara2

This is my first trip to oz and am uncertain if we can see all the places we would like to. On our list is Whitsunday islands, Fraser island, sunshine coast, gold coast, Byron bay and leaving australiafrom Brisbane. We have from 24 April till 4th may so 10 days. Where would it be best to start from? We would be flying from Sydney to one of the destinations, and what would be the best way to travel in that time- car vs train? Are any of these places very similar and missable? There are two of us travelling. Thanks

Hi I am looking for reasonable priced accommodation for 4 nights near Mater Hospital or on Public transport route. Is it possible to get a bus from Kangaroo Point or could you walk from there. Grateful for any reasonably priced recommendations, I am looking at Checkin December 4 and checkout December 8. Also are there any shoes on in Brisbane during this time. Cheers
We are visiting Brisbane next weekend and would love to go out to a teppanyaki restaurant ... any recommendations?? :) Thanks in advance and happy travels!
My friends are going to Australia soon. While they will read everyone’s pages here, it would be highly appreciated if recommend top interesting things/activities – i.e., ‘must do/see’ for 1) Sydney, 2) Brisbane, 3) Mackay, and 4) the area between Sydney and Brisbane. Time: last two weeks of coming November Their interests mostly (in this order): Architecture, history, local festivals (any going on at that time?), zoos, and culture. According to above interests list, is it worth of driving from Brisbane to Sydney? Or if there are visit-worthy places between the two places, is there anyway they can take train or bus to visit them? Thank you very much for your help! Mei
Hello again, upon advice from my fellow VTers I have decided to go with the care hire option for traveling to Noosa from Brisbane. Can someone recommend the cheapest + best service car hire agency located in central Brisbane. Thank you.
Hello all! Thinking of taking a day trip to Noosa Heads from Brisbane in a few weeks. I am considering renting a vehicle to allow for greater flexibility once in Noosa (does this make sense?). Does anyone think that this is the best way to go or would public/general transport be a better option? and if so, can someone recommend a bus or train route/company? Thank you.
I have about five days to drive from Brisbane to Sydney. As I have been along the coast, I need suggestions of sights to see and roads to travel. I want to see as much as possible. I will be leaving Brisbane October 16. Thanks for any help.
