campervan or car rental for travel around brisbane and up the coast

by bigslick1time Online Now Jun 2, 2010 at 1:57 PM

My wife and I are flying into Brisbane on Aug 4 for 8 days/nights. Want to see as much as we can within 300 or 400 kilometers of Brisbane...definately the coast areas and inland for special sights. Is the campervan a good option for just the two of us? or are we better off renting a small car and looking for low-cost accommodations? I have never done the campervan option before so I am a bit nervous about comfort and finding places to stay and being able to go where we want to go. How much would a campervan cost as opposed to renting a small car and staying in lower cost lodging that is clean and safe but not much more than somewhere to sleep at night?

It is a better idea (in my opinion) to rent a small car and stay in cheaper accommodation. There is plenty to choose from, motels and small country hotels will not cost more than A$70.00 per night (possibly less) - August is not high season. Brisbane has plenty of budget accommodation. There is a possibility that you may find camping spots for the Campervan, but they will be far and few in between.

Within that radius I would rent a small car like a Hyundai Getz and use motel accomadation. The following link you may find useful queenslandholidays.com.au/de...

I agree, renting a normal sedan and staying in motels is the bettrer option. A sedan is cheaper to hire, uses less fuel, is easier and more comfortable to drive. Motels are good quality and not expensive, and at the end it will be about the same cost in total, maybe even less.

Hi, a small car would be better to park and drive - especially if you are not used to driving on the other side of the road. A

I agree - stay away from the campervan. You have to take it everywhere with you and parking could be a problem. However most caravan parks have cabins with ensuite bathrooms and kitchens. Usually not very big, but good enough for two people on a nightly basis, they may be a bit cheaper than motels.
