I am very much interested in coming to Borneo for a visit and to hopefully spend some time working voluntary in one of the Urangutan sanctuarys. Can anyone help me with some info on how to go about this?
Suggest you write to the Wildlife Department of Sabah for the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sandakan or the Bukit Merah Lake Town resort in Peninsular Malaysia (which has an Orang Utan Island, thought the Orang Utan is not native to Peninsular Malaysia) - google them for information/advice?

Sheherezad's advice is very useful and, like she also suggested, googling this type of voluntary work to do in Borneo can result in lots of new info too. I found this was a good place to start when I was looking do to voluntary work abroad (and it is much cheaper than if you were to go through one of the voluntary organisations set up as a 'middle-man')

since you are headed to Borneo, you may be interested in applying for the global sustainability 2011 project hosted by our national university. see http://www.sustainability2011.org/. we have 2 species of red apes ie orang utan n meragang, both on danger list. I posted this under Brunei forum, but was deleted!

Strange it got deleted? Did you post it as an advertisement??

i posted it as a challenge for VTers, and a VT meet, however in hindsight it could have been perceived as an advert for big blue.... i did not receive note to say that my posting was deleted and reason whereof...

No, you won't receive a notification - someone would have reported it as an advert and VT managers would have removed it :(
