have booked a flight into bordeaux and flying out of biarritz 7 days later, planning to spend 2-3 days in Bordeaux including a vinyard tour, and last 2-3 days in Biarritz chilling on beach with maybe a surf lesson included. Travelling public transport, would people recommend fitting in one more town to stop off for a day between the 2 points or spending max time in each spot? if stopping, any recommendations of stop off points en route? also any idea how long train between biarritz and bordeaux takes? thx
Hi Steve, The train can take anything between 2 and 4 hours depending on the train. I took the 19th August as a test date and the fastest is at 13h22 and takes 1h57 mins. Taking the bus I presume it would take the old N10 and there's not a lot on that road apart from Bayonne which is worth a visit. If there is transport, then the Bassin d'Arcachon and also Biscarosse are worth a day.

You don't say when you are going to be in the area but be advised that even in July and August there is very little in the way of public transport to the beach/surf resorts. After 31st August it is non-existent. The railway line runs inland most of the way although there is a branch line to Arcachon (not surfy at all) and it isn't until much further south that the line even gets anywhere near the coast. Then there are few if any buses to take you to the seaside. Biarritz is as good a place as any to spend your time, you won't get much from a one night stop anywhere else, which in August is well nigh impossible anyway.
