Thank you for your quick answers. However, is it true that most local small shops only accept cash?
It's been a few years, but the local crafts people near the port only accepted cash the last couple times. The bank atms did however work for us without issue. The larger store merchants on Tahiti accepted credit cards.

I paid a lot of things by credit card but small amounts cash. However, I did not always check out if credit cards would have been accepted. Bora Bora and Tahiti are very touristy and credit cards are far more widely accepted than on other islands. You always have the option of getting cash from ATM machines. I had trouble with a few of them but Banque Socredo always worked fine, and they are everywhere.
