I want to travel from Boise to Yellowstone (return) in May - not keen on driving. Are there any bus trips or other organised tours in that area? Hasanone got any ideas.
This is a difficult trip to do. Greyhound has one bus per day from Boise, departing at 1025am and arriving in West Yellowstone the next day at 0825, this will entail a couple of transfers and an overnight in Rexburg. Delta Airlines does have flights also from Boise to West Yellowstone via SLC however their flight schedule for May of next year is not available yet. You might look at the following web site for more information regarding tours to the park yellowstonenationalparktours... There use to be a daily Greyhound from Salt Lake to West Yellowstone many years ago but that seems to have ceased. Yellowstone Park Company which was the orginal company that ran the tours, hotels, etc back in the 70's use to have a daily bus from Idaho Falls to Old Faithfull Inn, I know this as a fact as I use to drive it. Unfortunately this has cease operation also.

May is actually a bit early for Yellowstone, and it's only in the latter part of the month that most of the park is accessible. There's a good chance that some of the roads will still be closed into mid-May and that snow will be on the ground. So, if there are tours from Boise, they very likely will not be running them in May. One option would be to fly from Boise to Jackson, where you can almost always acquire transportation to the park. There may also be transportation from Salt Lake City, which is another easy flight or bus trip from Boise.

By the way, you could also fly from Bosie to Jackson Hole via SLC and enter Yellowstone from there. Delta has 2 daily flights in May.

Thanks for that - maybe I'd be better to rethink driving there? Or postpone the trip a bit later/

Snow is highly likely in May in Yellowstone. If you are driving, there is a more interesting route. If you turn north at Mountain Home you can go though an area called Craters of the Moon. It is an amazing site. It is a tad shorter, but the speed limit is slower. (But there are few cops on these roads.)
