Travel from Manila to Bohol

by grepthis Online Now Apr 30, 2012 at 2:29 AM

Hello VT Forum. I was hoping one of you could provide some advice on getting from Manila to Bohol for a trip during the first 2 weeks of June. After doing my research it seems that the way to go is to fly since the ferries take so long. I am only able to stay in the Philippines for 2 weeks and time is important to me. I have never been to Manila and plan on spending 2 days there and then going on to some islands as i prefer to be outside of the city. My 2 main questions are: 1. Is 2 days enough to see the main things in Manila as well as do a little shopping? 2. Since i don't know how long i will be in Manila yet, is it ok to wait until i get there to book my flights from Manila to our first destination Bohol? I don't want tickets to be sold out but am hoping that isn't the case since i won't be in the main tourist season. Thanks all for any tips or advice. Kind Regards Kurt

    1. Yes, two days is enough for Manila. The sights to see and things to do are really much better in the provinces. 2. If you're tight on the budget, book now. There are promo fares in Cebu Pacific and Air Phil Express. Go check their websites. Just a tip though, if there's no promo fare for Bohol (Tagbilaran), book a Manila-Cebu flight (1 hour), then take a ferry to Bohol, about PHP 800 round trip, which takes about two hours. Otherwise, you can just book upon arriving in Manila. I'm pretty sure Philippine Airlines has a lot of seats for you. Their seats cost a bit more than the two budget airlines though. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

Thanks so much for the reply. That really does help a lot. I am going to do as you suggested and book now to the islands and if we see that we needed another day in Manila, we can go back 1 day early for our flight back home. Thanks again. Kurt

OK, usually www.cebupacific.com or www.airphilexpress.com or www.zestair.com. will have some offers. You can register with them and they will email you when promos are available. The offers are usually only available online. I don't know where you intend to stay but i suggest Ermita area as it's near Intramuros which is the old Spanish city. I think two days is enough and if you want a backpacker type of place check out Friendly's www.friendlysguesthouse.com. The owner is a local guy who has travelled tyhe world, good place to meet people, gather info, internet, book exchange, free coffee and use of kitchen. 300+ dorm, room 500+. A little more are the long established ghouses Pension Natividad and Malate pension, probably around 1000 pesos now, dorms too. All in same area. Then there is Australian run Swagman. Perhaps you should just spend the 1 day in Manila and leave the shopping until you fly out. Robinsons shopping Mall is a five minute walk from the above mentioned ghouses. Pedro Gil is the local station. Feel free to ask more.

note most domestic airline have only 15kg allowance but u can ad extra on cebu pacific website -if book promo fares -not changeable or fees can be more expensive than original flight- a few days might be enough to stay in bohol -so maybe few days in cebu or another island near bohol called camiguin .

Eager is correct. If the fares to Bohol (Tagbilaran) are too high u can always take a flight to Cebu which has more than 5 flights a day. There would be less flights to Bohol than Cebu and can be costly. It would be nice to visit Cebu (Queen of the southern islands) also then just take a speedboat to Tagbilaran. You can buy from any SM mall ( this is the most famous mall in the Philippines and there are many branches). Find the Superferry ticketing booth then ask for supercat bookings. Anyway if u get to take a direct flight to Bohol then its better, however hotels might be fully booked in Panglao. You can stay in one of the hotels in Tagbilaran (Metro center or even Travellers Inn just across Bohol Quality mall)then ask for local transpo to Panglao island ( Alona beach or Bohol Beach club). Do your Manila shopping after coming from Bohol, Im sure you will also be buying some souvenirs in Bohol. Find it from Bohol Quality as the souvenir shops at the beach or Loboc area would be more expensive. If you buy some calamay the best choice is from Jagna. All the best! Ayo ayo...

Hi, my name is Ivy and I've been living Bohol for long time now. My advice is that, for me yeah you are right that 2 days in Manila is enough... If I were you I will take flight to Cebu so then you could experience riding ferry too and you can have a little bit tour of Cebu... Ferry from Cebu to Bohol only takes 1hr and 45 min... I don't think ticket from Manila to Bohol will be sold out at that time but I am sure it will be very expensive ticket... If you want more advice about your travel to Bohol like places to visit and things to do, just let me know and I will get back to you soon. Ivy
