On the route between Atlanta and Memphis, we foresee to stop in Birmingham and more precisely in the BW of Beacon Drive at Irondale. We will stay there only one night and we choose this location because it is close to Hghw 20. But is the area safe ? Some comments on Tripadvisor say it is unsafe. Thanks RAY
Bonjour! The area is kind of on the edge between upper-middle-class and lower-class, sort of in a commercial district. I wouldn't say it's crime-ridden, but it isn't posh. It's right down the hill from Our Lady of the Angels Monastery (EWTN/Mother Angelica). If you like BBQ, you must eat at the Golden Rule BBQ, where you will be served by the tackiest waitresses anywhere. It is just over on Crestwood Blvd (that runs parallel to I-20). Oh, and by the way, people in the South love to stare.

I have found the website of the Golden Rule BBQ : it seems great. I am fond of pork ribs... Thanks for the tip
