Prices average

by Karlithus Online Now Jul 6, 2012 at 4:18 AM

Hello, VT'ers? How have you been? This time I want to ask you some prices about this city. If don't mind taking some time to answer the points bellow, it would be great! - We like to experience the foods of where we are. So, we may do some McDonald's etc, but for an average restaurant how much would it be for 2 people? Is it normal to have fixed priced menu? Will 20€ / 25€ do? - How much will it cost, for 2 people, the breakfast? Something like coffee and bread with cheese and ham, or some cookies. (What's normal in here?) - How much for a large beer? - How much for a glass of wine? - How much for a bottle of water? Once again, I thank you for taking the time for answering those questions. This part of our trip planning is fundamental for it's success (and to remain within our pocket's budget ehehe)! José

Fixed price menu: They are often offered as the daily special, usually for lunch, anywhere between 5/6 Euro and 15 Euro, but always without any beverages. The fixed price meals in the evening tend to be a good deal more expensive. Breakfast: Is very often included in the hotel's tariff, if not, better go to a café outside. You can get a breakfast from about 5 Euro, less, if you don't sit down but take it standing up on one the tables in a bakery. Many bakeries serve coffee. If you like ham for breakfast, you won't get that in a bakery, but any butcher will make you a ham sandwich to take away. A large beer: I'm not really a beer drinker and I really don't like the Berlin variety, so you better wait for someone else to tell you the price. The dark beer I like is about 4 Euro a glass. A glass of wine: Impossible to tell. A small glass of wine can start at 3 Euro and then go up to ? However, the really expensive wines are only served in bottles, not by the glass. A bottle of water: From 50 ct in a supermarket to some Euro in a train station on a Sunday. For most bottles you pay a deposit, make sure to return them the get the money ( usually 25 ct) back. It's generally cheaper to eat your big meal at lunch than at night. Enjoy Berlin.

Hi christine, We rented an appartment (staying for 5 days) so no breakfast included :) Those meals you say for 5/6 include drinks? 25€ for us two is the max we will take, but we would be glad to take lunch / dinner below it, you thinks it's possible? Thank you!

The daily specials are usually without any beverages, so no drinks included. If you have rented an apartment, you'll have a kitchen? Then it's easy to stay below 20/25 Euro. You can buy your food on a market or in a grocery store and prepare it yourselves. This will especially help you to save money on drinks. All restaurants have their menues posted outside, so you can check several restaurants before you decide where to eat. Typical for Berlin is the Currywurst - hot sausage with ketchup and curry. You get this at food stalls and eat it while walking - or standing up, some of the stalls have tables outside. A currywurst is not expensive.

There are many places around Berlin where you can get a coffee, roll and juice for around 4 euro. I had an incredibly filling lunch at an outdoor cafe by the Palace for less than 10 euro, plus the cost of a beer. It was a monster of a lunch that people actually stopped by the table to look at it and take pics....it is on my Berlin page. Lutter un Wegner has several upscale restaurants I enjoy in Berlin...you can get an idea of prices on their website. restaurantlutterundwegner.de.... Kathryn was spot on as to a bottle of water... you can pay several euro if you buy it at a metro station or tourist shop...or walk around the corner to a grocery store for .50 cents. Karl (and you don't have to pay me royalties for using my name ;-) )
