    • Backpacking family - train or car to head from Milan to Verona through Sirmione

      Sirmione May 16, 2013 at 7:24 PM

      Hi, everyone!

We will spend a couple of days in Milan in laste June and then will head east to Verona and Padova, but intended to spend a few hours in Sirmione. I could rent a car or take the train (consider that we will have our backpacks with us at this time since we will be moving to a different city), but I am concerned with two possible problems associated with each option - lack of parking space or lack of lockers at the train station. Any suggestions or ideas?

Is it easier and quicker to reach Bellagio via train to Como and bus to Bellagio, how often and how late do the buses run? Or go to Milano Centrale change for Varenna and then the ferry. Arriving at 6 o'clock on a Friday evening and going by the timetables we wont be reaching Bellagio till about 10 o'clock.

      Hello travel gurus,
I will be in Italy May 22-June 25. I want to use the train some of the time. Taking into account that it will be busy and some of my destinations are popular...Is it worth my time and money I purchase Eurorail (which is First Class)from the states or purschase 2nd class when in Italy. My girlfriend and I are in our 30's-40's and have no physical limitations.
      Thank very much.

Lago di Como May 3, 2013 at 9:35 AM

      Hello world travelers,

I just found this fantastically inspiring site by seeing one Auroea/Jelena beautiful photographs and this is my first post. I regret that this is my first trip to Italy in 19yrs and my girl has never been. we are leaving from Los Angeles to Milano May22 and leaving from Rome June 25 and I want Lago di Como to be our first stop for 3 nights. With so many rooms being booked at this time of year I am have difficulty deciding on a b&b or small hotel or near a town that has great views, isn't very busy, has an authentic feel and good food. My budget for a room is flexible up to about $I20 a night. I am thinking I may rent a car since I would like to visit many towns. Any recommendations?

      I sincerely appreciate. Claudio Marangone

      Anyone leaving Bergamo airport soon?

by SamLaming Online Now Mar 25, 2013 at 7:09 AM

Hey there, if anyone is leaving from Bergamo airport to anywhere any time soon, PLEASE, PLEASE, let me know - a friend and I were there yesterday and my friend has left behind something incredibly important - between checking our hand luggage in and going to our gate 6 there are some toilets, in the female side my friend there left a book, signed by the author with a very personal note that means the absolute world to her. My email is samlaming@hotmail.com, maybe the cleaners have got rid of it, we've tried the lost and found but no luck, this is super, super important to me and my friend and anyone able to help would mean the world. The book is called pa kanten. I am willing to pay anyone who finds the book an agreeable amount for their time effort and postage. Mucho gracias!

by aspiringcruiser Online Now Mar 23, 2013 at 9:12 AM

Hi, we are considering trying a short cruise holiday from Savona but nearest airport (flying from Ireland) seems to be Bergamo. We would be arriving the night before the cruise departure date (at end of May) and flying out of Bergamo again two days after cruise finishes. The return flight leaves very early in the morning. Can someone please advise us on travel between bergamo airport and savona port/recommend where to stay before and after cruise? We will be travelling with three kids and two grandparents who are not fit for steep/long walks or heavy lifting but we do plan on travelling as light as possible (flying with ryanair!) If all this has already been answered please feel free to direct me to the relevant threads - thank you :-)

Does your area typically experience flooding when the Alps melt? There has been so much snow this winter, we are concerned that the roads may be impassible. We are planning to travel through Bergamo in early-mid May 2012, and are interested in seeing the mountains to the north - ex. Stelvio area.

I will stay an extra day at Hotel Piazza Vecchia Sunday, and have a plane to catch at MXP at 3(15:00) on Monday. I just realized my extra day is a Sunday, and wonder what will be open? Any suggestions for moderate restaurants nearby dining solo? Cost of a taxi to the train station in the a.m.? How much time should I allow for taxi and purchasing ticket for train to Milan Centrale, and then to MXP so I can be there by 12:30 to 1? I will be anxious about making the plane on time, LOL I am so looking forward to cycling the Lakes area, and Bergamo looks lovely!!Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Hello friends, We have 1 hour from landing to train which must catch from Bergamo. Perhaps with bus is possible, but a little delay will break plans, so variant 2 is taxi, is it too expensive from airport to railway station Bergamo. Also does the cost depends where from take a taxi - for example from office of taxi company in airport, on the street, a there illegal taxi drivers? Which is "normal "price Thanks in advance!

Hi, my mum and her friend fly into Bergamo on the 24th September and will be travelling to Bellagio via the local train. I have found out that they will have to catch the bus connecting the airport to the train station, train to Varenna and then the ferry to Bellagio. They are a bit concerned about the ease of buying the tickets to complete their journey. They will not clear airport customs until 1830ish, will the train station be manned or will they have to buy their tickets from a machine? If so where are the machines located? Is purchasing the bus tickets a simple procedure? Thanks in Advance Si. Just seeing it in black and whit will allay any fears they have.
