Does your area typically experience flooding when the Alps melt? There has been so much snow this winter, we are concerned that the roads may be impassible. We are planning to travel through Bergamo in early-mid May 2012, and are interested in seeing the mountains to the north - ex. Stelvio area.
The mountains are quite some substantial distance away from the Bergamo. The old town (Alta) is high above the lower town (Bassa). I very much doubt you will have any problems getting to or through Bergamo.

Absolutely nothing to worry about. The floods, if they occur, happen lower towards the flatlands and not in the mountains. In May the roads are perfectly ok.
