Hi, I'm sure you'll no doubt go to Milan too! It's a short train ride away. And in Milan try to catch at opera at the fabulous La Scala, plus admire the rooftop views from the Duomo, and marvel at Vitt. Emanuel II. Not to mention shopping or window shopping at the many fashion boutiques on surrounding streets!

Hiya... There is a good chance I will be in Bergamo around JUne 1st to 8th en route to see my family in Gravedona, Lake Como, althought dates are not settled yet. Would love to meet up and have a drink together. If this is your first time to Bergamo, then happy to show you around, but if we don't manage to meet up, there are some things you MUST do. take the little funicula up to the old town and walk the old town walls for fantastic views, then take the next one up higher to San Vigilio with even better views. Visit the old castle for great views across the old city, the new city and out to the airport and beyond, Brilliant. Take lunch in the little restaurant near the funicula station(open air) or just across the road is a lovely restaurant with an open air terrace. Not too expensive either. Walk back down to the old town and have coffee in the main square. Walk back down towards the funicula station again and towards the right, follow the road down to the gate and sit along the battlements and admire the beautiful views. Take a day trip by train up to Lake Como and get off at Varenna and catch the ferry over to Bellagio. Whatever you do, enjoy yourself.

if I were you I would not stay a whole month in Bergamo. I suggest first few days and other before go back home, in the middle move to Verona as a base, beside Verona itself, it could be much better to go to Garda places, Venice, Padua, Trento, Bologna as a day trip by train. Other days should be spent at La Spezia, easy way to 5 terre and Pisa/Lucca/Parma. A couple of day in Florence then Bergamo again for day trip to Milan/Brescia/Cremona.

I would like to thank everyone for their advice, we do not know what we would have done without the help of forum members, on the matter of going to Venice we have decide it would be best to go down to Verona, get an appartment for 7 days and do day trips from there. God bless all that replied regards george
