Has any one else used the chicken buses from Belize City to San Ignacio before? Is it Luggage friendly? How much is it? Thanks all :D
Where do the buses depart from in Belize City that go to San Ignacio? The Water Taxi Terminal or elsewhere? And do they have room for luggages?
Arriving on cruise ship on Jan. 29th. What would be the cost of a taxi from cruise port to Municipal airport?? Thanks.
Hi folks---we are in the planning stages for our trip to Belize this coming May or June---we have a house rental in LadyVille with use of a car---been reading about crime and such in the area, and I think we will be OK in this neighborhood----we have 3 day trips we want to do, and wondering if we can really do a day trip to Tikal from there? Also any restaurants in Ladyville worth checking out? Thanx in advance! Dusty
I was in Belize City once before, a few years ago and remember a lot of little shops outside the 'tourist' area. My wife makes jewelry and I was wondering if anyone knows of a place there where they sell beads. She uses a lot of different kinds of jasper.... Thanks! Kevin
We want to go to Belize either October or November, wanting to start by flying into Belize International Airport, then we want to go to Placencia for 3 nights, and then to the mountains (Five Sisters Lodge) for 3-4 nights, then back to the airport for our flight home. We may just veg at the beach not really needing a car, and the Lodge has tours with transportation included. What are our options with approximate costs for getting from the airport to Placencia, then to Five Sisters, and then back to the airport? I did look up Tropic Air from Belize City to Placencia at89 per person, sounds pretty good..... Specifically is Caracol worth a trip from the Lodge? Thanx in advance.....
i will be in belize city on cruise in a couple of weeks. i want to rent a taxi from port to belmapon. my business will take about 2 hours. want would cost be for a taxi for 5 hours or do you have other suggestions?
I'm picking up my husband at the airport and then we are going to drive to the water taxis. Anyone know of a safe place to park the car for a few days?
I want to go to Ambergris Caye for some diving. I'm planning on taking the bus from either Cozumel or Guatemala City to Belize City, and then a boat over to Ambergris. Which bus journey is easiest/quickest? I've looked into flights but they're too expensive. Thanks!
This is my first time on this sight but will be traveling to Belize on a cruise, what I wanted to know, is there any place on Belize to buy very large shells, are there special sights to see within walking distance, is it ok to drink their water? Thank you for any help you can give me Bonnie
daughter planned on going to belize city to do humanitarian internship, possibly with the garifuna people. red flags abound at this point about her safety as we read lots of reports about how dangerous this destination is. please give us input. she would not be with a group, just herself. are these crime reports ovrblown, or should we be genuinely concerned? are there other areas of the country belize which would be a safer choice? thanks so much for any input/experiences in this city.
We will be in Belize City for one day as part of a cruise. What's the best touristy thing and the best local fun bar?
Has anyone taken their kids into these countries and how would you think that would go? Is it a good idea or bad?

My wife and I wish to visit Tikal, Guatemala in July. We plan to take an air-conditioned bus early morning from Belize City to El Remate, Guatemala, then on to Tikal the same day. Is there a bus that goes directly to Tikal? Or do we have to change bus at San Ignacio, Belize? How long would it take before we get to Tikal? Thanks.
We made the 3600 mile trek from California to Belize...yahoo!!! Now we have an opportunity to fly to San Pedro for the night - and I don't know what to do with my dog...yikes! Does anyone have any information on dog kennels in the area? It's not my first choice, but I don't know anyone here yet and am feeling a bit stuck Thanks - you guys are always soooo helpful!
Hello everyone - First of all let me say thank you to all of you who have built your Caye Caulker pages. I have enjoyed using them to assist me in planning my trip. Trents or Trenton's, the place I wanted to stay at is booked solid during the time I am looking at going. I am also looking at a place called Popeyes which is located just down from the water taxi doc. Has anyone stayed there? Any comments? In addition does anyone know how far of a walk it is to the Split? Are bike rentals available and if they are do they work well on the sand beaches? I know we can rent a golf cart but will probably choose not to in order to save since our hotel may end up costing us more than we planned. In addition if there is any VT members that will be in Caye Caulker Dec 26th 07 - Jan 1st 08 my boyfriend and I would love to hook up for a drink to say hello! Thank you in advance for your assistance. Christy
We are hoping to rent a care and trave into Guatemala for a few days. Does anyone know if you can take a car rented in Belize over to Guatemala? I also heard car rentals where really exensive in Belize, does anyone know of a good company to use or have any suggestions? Thanks, Christy
Hi! I[m busing in from Guatemala and flying from Belize City early the next morning. Can anyone suggest a cheapish hotel in the vicinity?
Can anyone recommend someone in Belize City to talk to about chartering a sailboat for an extended trip? I´m working my way down to Belize by way of Mexico. Any info would be great! Thanks, Kirk
I am so new to this...but could someone please tell me how to get to a ferry to San Pedro from International airport in Belize City?
I'm planning to cross Belize riding on public transportation; I'll enter from Chetumal and then head to Punta Gorda so I can take a water taxi to Guatemala. Do you think I can make this crossing in one day or do I have to spend the night in Belize city? Is it better to enter Guatemala from punta Gorda or throu Melchor de Mencos(Tikal, flores)? Thank you so much, Tomas.
Planning a 10 day Jan 07 vaca. 3* hotel will do on the beach. Should I stay on Ambergris Caye or mainland Belize? My main reason for this trip is snorkling and maybe some jungle/ruin exploration stuff. Thx Sandy
We are chartering a catamaran in Placencia to sail for 10 days and then sightsee for 5 days. Where are the available grocery stores and what types of food/supplies do they offer? Are prices high, low or average with respect to what we would pay in the U.S.? (I assume that they are much lower than what we are paying the charter company!!!). Someone indicated that we should bring some U.S. foods/supplies to use as barter for local fish, lobster, veggies, fruits, etc. Besides Spam (which I understand is at a great premium), what other "goodies" should we consider bringing for this purpose? Does anyone know if we can legally bring "food" into the country in our suitcases? I called American Airlines and they were not able to give me a straight answer. Also, what local art/crafts are desirable to bring back from Belize? I know that there are slade carvings (probably quite expensive???) but anything else that we may be on a look-out for (and what would be a reasonable price to pay for some of these things, including the slate carvings). As this is our first trip to Belize, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
We have chartered a catamaran in Placencia to sail for 10 days after which we are taking 5 days for sightseeing. I have been reading a lot of bad press with respect to safety --- even the U.S. State Department doesn't have good things to say about the safety of its citizens travelling in Belize. We are arriving at the airport in Belize and will be quickly taking a small plane to Placencia so we will not be spending any time in Belize City. Nevertheless, I am concerned about "pirates" while we are sailing (snorkeling, diving, beach hopping, sleeping at night, etc.). Should this be a concern? Also, what would anyone suggest for sightseeing. By the sounds of it, it appears that 5 days might be too long of a time to do this. Where should we sightsee and what is of value to see? There will be one man and three ladies (all family-ages 42 through 71) Also, the company from which we are renting the boat indicates that we should buy all of our food from them (at a great premium, I might add). Does anyone have any input as to the benefit of this --- are there places to buy basic food (fruit, vegetables, bread, milk, water, eggs, etc. --- just the basics)? Also, is buying fish from the natives an option and plentiful? What I am asking is if it would be less expensive to buy from native places or from the charter company. I would love to hear from anyone who has had a recent good or bad experience in Belize and especially from anyone who has chartered a sailboat there. We are chartering through TMM Yacht Charters. As a matter of fact, if any of you have rented from them, please let us know your experiences as well. Any assistance that any of you can give us to allay our fears about this very exciting trip would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Cave tubing sounds great, and I´m headed to Belize City in a couple of days. How long was the ride from the city to the jungle? And do you remember where you found Ernesto? It would be great to get a city tour along with the tubing trip. Thanks! Gale
I'm headed to belize in a few days and would like to stay somewhere decent, but basic. I'm on my own, so somewhere with other traveler types is ideal, and I'm kinda over grotty ultra budget places. After having read several posts on here, I now have slight safety reservations about the place, although I know you always get there and realize common sense will usually steer you right. Can anyone give me suggestions about a specific hotel/guesthouse or at least part of town to head to to collect myself, find out what's around, and feel safe? Also, any good areas of belize, or neighboring countries that might be a cool place to do a short language course?
my boyfriend and i are flying in to belize city in 2 weeks and staying for 8 days. we are going to pine ridge mountains, then to placencia beach, then to dangrigia then to caye caulker, then back to belize city to fly out. we were thinking it would be best to rent a car, does anyone think that we could navigate our way around easily in a car? or do buses run everywhere quite easily and safe?
I keep hearing that Belize City is "not that safe." Can anyone give me some specifics? I will be staying in a hotel with a group of people, but in a room by myself. A friend of mine suggested I take pepper spray or some sort of self-protection. Is that even legal? Is it really that dangerous and in what way?
hi, would like o know if traveling by bus from mexico to belize with teens is safe?
