My husband and I are going at the last week of May. Very excited! Staying at changes in latitude I think close to San Pedro. Want to snorkel as much as possible! Sny info appreciated!! Have traveled the world and last March 2013 spent a long time in Thailand and some time on Kaoh Tao! It was amazing as is all of Thailand!! Beth
Reviews say it is the best thing ever done, also say physically fit, also mention claustrophobia being a problem. I wish I knew people here that know me that had done it, I do know many who have been to Belize but not done the cave. I have read many trip adviser reviews, I guess a few more opinions, especially those who I know their travel style, would be helpful. It sounds awesome but also a bit scary.
ALSO...Tikal? Is it really the end all? I kind of thought one or the other in terms of time and money.
Zip lines and cave tubing if the rivers are not too high in September are for sure, then snorkeling for sure on Caye caulker and maybe a few nights on ambergris caye as well.
one more thing...planning on being in San Ignacio for Independence day, market in the morning. Good idea?
Does anyone have suggestions for the easiest way to get from San Ignacio to Dangriga? My friend and I will be there in June and we will not have a car. Thanks!
Has any one else used the chicken buses from Belize City to San Ignacio before? Is it Luggage friendly? How much is it? Thanks all :D
I will be visiting belize next week after making reservations today. I am an avid rafter and am curious if there are any good rivers running this time of year. We will be staying in Hopkins, but I am willing to travel. I have had a horrible time tracking down any outfitters online.. thanks for the help
Where do the buses depart from in Belize City that go to San Ignacio? The Water Taxi Terminal or elsewhere? And do they have room for luggages?
Arriving on cruise ship on Jan. 29th. What would be the cost of a taxi from cruise port to Municipal airport?? Thanks.
We will have a car for our use staying in Ladyville this coming May-----If we want to take the boat trip up to see the ruins, is there safe parking where we get on the river boat? How early do the tours start and is there a favorite tour leader/group?
My wife and I have been going down to Caye Caulker and love it, BUT the sand flies eat us up. Does anyone have a good repellent.
Hello: I am planning to visit Belize in May with my husband and college age daughter. We plan to do most of the activities there (mayan ruins, ziplining, snorkeling, etc.). We are torn between San Pedro and Placencia. I understand that Placencia is further from Belize City than San Pedro is. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for your help.
Hi folks---we are in the planning stages for our trip to Belize this coming May or June---we have a house rental in LadyVille with use of a car---been reading about crime and such in the area, and I think we will be OK in this neighborhood----we have 3 day trips we want to do, and wondering if we can really do a day trip to Tikal from there? Also any restaurants in Ladyville worth checking out? Thanx in advance! Dusty
We're going to go to Belize Sept 15 for a few weeks and was wondering what the weather is like. Sounds like it's the rainy season there but that it rains mainly during the night and early morning...has anybody been there during that time? What's the weather like and are there any areas we should skip because of the weather? Or maybe go to?
I was in Belize City once before, a few years ago and remember a lot of little shops outside the 'tourist' area. My wife makes jewelry and I was wondering if anyone knows of a place there where they sell beads. She uses a lot of different kinds of jasper.... Thanks! Kevin
My husband and I are considering a Belize vacation. We want to do inland and island and are trying to determine which of the Mayan Ruin sites are a must. If we do Caracol/Rio Frio Cave/Rio on Pools/Mountain Pine Ridge, ATM Cave Tour and Xunantunich/Cahal Pech, are we going to regret not going to Tikal? For island, we're trying to determine whether we want to do Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye or Dangriga area. We prefer a quieter laid back vibe, versus the more resort-y type areas (for example, not a fan of Cancun, but love Playa Del Carmen). Any insight is appreciated. I have also put together sample itineraries so if anyone is super familiar and wants to take a look, I'm happy to share for feedback. Thanks! Kimberly
We are still searching for that perfect house/cottage somewhere on the beach in Belize---I would prefer to be somewhat close to Belize City, but we also want to see monkeys and the like----we like very private spots, not really close to others.....want to laze on the beach a few days and take some 1/2 day trips to see "hollers" and birds.....Thanx! Want to go late Oct or early Nov 2012....
3 couples and 1 single looking for a 3 or 4 bedroom villa or house, with pool and on beach in Feb. 2013 for 7 nights, any ideas?
We want to go to Belize either October or November, wanting to start by flying into Belize International Airport, then we want to go to Placencia for 3 nights, and then to the mountains (Five Sisters Lodge) for 3-4 nights, then back to the airport for our flight home. We may just veg at the beach not really needing a car, and the Lodge has tours with transportation included. What are our options with approximate costs for getting from the airport to Placencia, then to Five Sisters, and then back to the airport? I did look up Tropic Air from Belize City to Placencia at89 per person, sounds pretty good..... Specifically is Caracol worth a trip from the Lodge? Thanx in advance.....
We are planning our trip to this great country. My wife and myself, if possible due to the best part of the year for us (Willing to rescheduale) & our thought of the tours we are thinking of experienceing. We would love to be at an "All-Inclusive Resort" for 10-14 days, if possible, in November. We are also greatly interested in touring The Maya Sites and leaning of thier Great Heritage. We would greatly like to see and maybe spend a 2 day outting to see Xunan Tunich & Tikal, the largest known Mayan city. These 2 are a must for us. We would like to know the right places to stay and what it will take, if possible, the 2 day outting from the resort. Can the bookings of the tours be done through the resort, or, only available to be booked away from the resort. Please help. The two of us are greatly interested in a November trip, but need to know if it better to be done at a different time of the year. Any suggestions would be Greatly Appreciated
Hi all: we are trying to set up our holiday in Belize, and we had some questions on Crooked Tree wildlife sanctuary: a. We are looking for budget, but clean and safe accomodation for us 2 adults and 2 kids when we visit the sanctuary. Any suggestions? I did find Birds eye view lodge on the web, but it would be good to have a few more options. We are not looking for any high end resorts :) b. Do any of the folk who have birded at Crooked Tree have recommednations and contact for a good bird guide who could take us out on a day of birding. We are early risers and can keep going!! The kids are great too. We've had loads of success with birdingpals.org in teh past, but i havent gotten any responses this time around. So wondering if you could advise. We are planning to be around Crooked Tree April 6-10th or so... Thanks Chitra
Does anyone know where I can sell Belize Dollars in Melbourne? Or if anyone from Melbourne is heading to Belize and wants to take some cash let me know. Cheers.
Hi - First, I am traveling with sister and mother both who have some limitations as to their physical activity. This will rule out zip lining, ATM, moderate to hard hiking but we do want to see mayan ruins, caves, jungle. We can canoe, easy walking trails, snorkel, swim. With that preface, here is a tentative itinerary... Day 1 - Crooked Creek Lodge (have to stay fairly local as pick up sister next day at airport in Belize City) Day 2 - San Ignacio - Black Rock Lodge - Mayan ruins (easier ones to get to) Day 3 - San Igancio - Barton Creek Canoe trip to caves then travel to Placencia Day 4 and 5 - Placencia - Singing Sands Day 6 and 7 - Punta Gorda - Hickatee Cottages Day 8 and 9 - ??? (somewhere back halfway to Belize City) or should we stay another day in Punta Gorda area??? Day 10-14 - Caye Caulker - Lazy Iguana Does this seem reasonable? Should we spend more time in Punta Gorda than Placencia area? Still trying to research all we want to do but need to lock in places to stay before they are unavailable. Where else is a good stop on way back north instead of Placencia? Looking for moderate priced places...no high end in the60-$150 range US. Any recommendations on activities in any of these areas as well as a place to stay on Day 8 and 9 would be very helpful. We will be renting a vehicle for trip until we go over to Caye Caulker. Thanks Kathy Any ideas of
Hi there! Thanks for reading this. We are two 25 year old young ladies looking to go to Belize for a wide range of interests -- we'd like to be near a good night life scene as we would like to go out at night and party. During the day we want to do a range of activities - diving, jungle hiking, Mayan ruins, etc. Is it possible to have it all? Or do we have to pick and choose? If I don't pre-plan any excursions, can I arrive and just wing-it and book them from the hotel as I get there? And can you travel to different parts of the country through excursion companies? We ideally would like to stay in a nice hotel along the beach. Looking to travel last week of April 2012. ANY suggestions at all would be MOST appreciated -- we are brand new to Belize!!
I loved the above Gelato spot in the village. would anyone know if they have a website or email address? Rick
We are taking a cruise in march and wanted to know the methods of transportation in roatan, belize, grand cayman. So what transportaion can we use to the ruins from our ship dock Thank you
My husband and I and our 18 year old daughter are travelling from San Ignacio to Caye Caulker on Dec. 27th. Should we bus to Belize City and fly Tropic Air? Or find our way to the water and take a ferry? Just trying to get some time estimates more than anything.
Hi, On the 24th of december, I will be arriving in Belize. I am a single female 35Y old traveller, but it will also be my birthday that day. Do you think I will me able to have some special birthday/christmas experiences? Or what could you recommend me to do on Christmaseve in Belize (inland). Thanks!!
Hi, We are planning a trip for about a week to Belize with out 2.5 year old daughter. I am torn between Ambergis Caye (San Pedro) and Placencia. We would like to do some beach activities like swimming, relaxing in water, some snorkeling etc. Would also like to mix it up with some nature hikes and half day inland excursions. Some questions, (1) Which location do you guys recommend - Ambergis or Placencia or some place else like Hopkins (2) In terms of safety, is one better than the other. Is Belize generally safe assuming we take common-sense precautions? (3) I did some research on hotels in both locations - kid-friendly, nice streach of beach, closer to some shopping/restaurants etc. I have narrowed it down to Banyan Bay or Xanadu in San Pedro and Robert's Grove in Placencia. Any other recommendations? Thanks a bunch in advance!
Hi, I will be traveling to Belize in dec/jan. The last 5 days I will be spending in Caye Caulker. Before that, I have 6 days I would like to use to visit the inland (Jungle...). Which city or village would you recommend to stay at, as a central base? Thanks!!
Hi, I will be traveling from Europe to Belize. Which currency is most common used in Belize? US dollar or local Belize currency? Thanks!
