Silk Market _- beware of the tailors

by unisil Online Now Jun 12, 2008 at 5:43 AM

Has anybody else had the problems we had at the tailors of Silk Markets Beijing? We bought 8 shirts and 3 womens suits. The skirts of the suits were 2 inches around the waste smaller, we went back 4 times and wasted the best part of 2 days on these suits. Finally they were delivered to our hotel at 2.00am in the morning, still wrong so I wrote off the A$1000+ the suits cost us. The shirts, the arms were 1/2" short one arm to the next. Whenever we went back, there was always 2-3 other peple complaining about their garments. Want some advice, DON'T buy tailor made garments at the Silk Market Beijing, they are cheap and you don't get what you pay for! They speak good English up to when you have a problem then they pretend to not know what the problem is.

I had that problem in Hong Kong a long time ago. I think basically the actual maker couldn't believe the measurer's numbers, so I got a 14 collar rather than 17! But it's not all bad, I have had some good stuff made in China (not in Beijing). Basically the tailor and the cloth vendor are separate, so I buy the material I like then take it to the tailor I know, who makes it up for me. So my recommendation for the future is just buy the material, then take it somewhere else - they don't care where it came from. By the way, be sure to inspect the cloth you buy, for any flaws.
