Beijing

by sarawakgirl Online Now Aug 14, 2007 at 8:03 PM

Hi everyone! I'm going to Beijing in Oct 2007 for 7 days. Kindly if anyone could advise me on few matters; 1) is it possible to travel to Xian or Yangtze River cruise or Guilin in the short period? 2) Is it cheap to travel by plane or train? 3) Reliable n reasonable price tour operator for Yangtze River Cruise? Thank you!

If you only go to Beijing for 7 days, you will need your time over there. I assume you want to see the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and so on...you will need your seven days just there in Beijing! By train is a long ride to Xi'An and Guilin is even further, if you have enough money, you can fly. But again, my advise is not to plan too much outside Beijing, rather look at what Beijing has to offer. ~Aukje

    1) No time for 3 Gorges cruise. Not worth flying to Guilin for only a couple of days. Xi'an is a definite possibility. 2) Best by overnight train sleeper.

Important Notice: Don't come on Oct. 1 to 7, it's the National Day holiday, crowded everywhere, airticket, train and hotel is more expensive.

you'd better come to Beijing at the middle of October, weather is good and not very crowed. If you have only 7 days, stay at Beijing, don't go to Xi'an and Guilin.

Tianjin is not faraway from Beijing, only 1 more hours by train, but I thing it's not much fun in Tianjin, except some special foods. October is a good time to eat seafood, Tang Gu is also well. about Beijing and Tianjin recommendations, you may read my Beijing and Tianjin/Tang Gu pages:)

No, you will be definitely disappointed with Tianjin. Nothing to see. Xi'an is possibile. An over-night train from Beijing to Xi'an is convenient. Many choices for you.Depart from 5:00PM~9:00PM, arrive at 6:00AM~8:00AM. 4 days in Beijing, 3 days in Xi'an. I recommend.

    1) Not enough time for 3 Gorges cruise (and not worth it either). Not worth it flying to Guilin for only a couple of days. Xi'an is a definite possibility. 2) Overnight sleeper train is the best value for money.

I just spend month in Tiacnin from the end of June through the end of July. Unless you have some partiuclar reaswon to vixit Tianjin, I recommend you stay in Beijing and wee what is to be seen there, like the building of the Olympic facilities. The only reason I went to Tianjin ix thzt my wife ix there. Otherwiee, I would not have bothered. Beijing is much more interesting.
