You can take the train Bayeux> St Malo.

    http://www.voyages-sncf.com/

will give you train times, details and fares in French (it's easy to work out) or you can choose the English language version (which will take you to Raileurope, a ticketing agency). The French language version gives the fare you will pay at the station.

I cannot find a direct bus option, but check back later for suggestions from other VT-ers.

Leics is right for the trains, but have a look at the timetables as some trains from Bayeux will try to take you through Paris, and that'll make it a 600 km trip. You will have to change in Dol de Bretagne for the St Malo line. Dinard no longer has a train station but you can get a bus just outside the station that will take you into Dinard.

yes the main French travel site leics gave you will tell you what you need. Not easy on public transport in the area.

Bayeux to St Malo the train and change at Dol de Bretagne.....to St Malo.
Bayeux to Dinard, same as above, then bus 16 from St Malo to Dinard

you can use the Breton official transport site that gives you more choices in this local area I am. they even have in English ::)

Thank you pfsmalo and gwened for your invaluable detailed train tips.Imagine booking the train that took us via Paris as changing trains would have been a nightmare!
We have been and are still spending hours and days planning our itinerary.
Your help has been a big relief for us.
By the way we are going in September.Do you see the need to book and buy online the train tickets i.e.Bayeux to St.Malo or should we wait till we get to Bayeux where we intend to stay for 3 nights?
    Merci beaucoup

I see absolutely no need to book or buy online. I'd just go to the station a day or so before travel and buy the tickets then.

No, no real need except that you might find tickets a little cheaper if you buy beforehand. You can only do this 90 days before your date of travel.

The three daily trains between Bayeux and St Malo via Dol de Bretagne are regional trains, so there is nothing to be gained by buying tickets in advance. The fare of €28,20 will be the same whether you buy in advance or on the day.

Three trains a day. That's it. Currently 0731, 1430 and 1746. Check timetables as they change from 9th December.
