Shopping in Bayeux

by gladfon Online Now Aug 5, 2009 at 3:03 PM

Hi Everyone,
We will be in Bayeux on a Friday and Saturday. We will be taking the World War II Victory tour on Friday and planning to spend Saturday walking around Bayeux. When is the market on Saturday? Are most stores open? Thank you. Gladys

Hi. The market will be in full swing by 8:00 AM on Saturday. The market in Bayeux is really nice; you'll enjoy it. They have nearly everything and the food vendors will let you taste their wares. There is a flower market, the foods, clothing and even furniture. It's great fun. BTW, most markets are closed by 12:30 for lunch so get there in the morning or there may not be a market. Early is better than late. 8^)

The other stores in town will be open too for regular Saturday hours. It's a busy place on Saturdays. There is public parking not too far from the cathedral and it's an easy walk to the market from there. Just follow the people. It may start earlier but we've never gotten there earlier. LOL

In the cathedral, be sure you go down into the crypt. There are marvelous frescoes on the ceiling. Once we met a lady singing the offices very quietly all by herself in the crypt. That was magical.
