What you suggest is the most worth to visit in mid of Feb.

      Thanks

    • Xmas markets - Nuremberg, Bamberg, Rothenburg

      Nürnberg Nov 2, 2014 at 11:09 PM

Planning 2½-3 days based in Nuremberg during the first week of December.
One day planned for Bamberg, one day for Rothenburg and one day for Nuremberg.
The impression I get from travel forums is the the Nuremberg Xmas market is one of the better (and bigger) ones in Germany. There are also Xmas markets in Bamberg and Rothenburg.

My question is: From personal experience, would you try to spend as much time as possible at the Nuremberg market at the expense of time in the Bamberg and Rothenburg markets? That is, should I leave Bamberg/Rothenburg for Nuremberg relatively early (15:00-16:00) after seeing their respective markets, in order to have more time at the Nuremberg market? I know the Nuremberg market is open until 21:00. How would you divide your time?
      Thanks.

    • Travel to Rothenburg

Rothenburg ob der Tauber Oct 30, 2014 at 5:22 AM

From reading all the info, travel to Rothenburg from Munich is quickest by car but I am from Australia and unsure of driving in Europe. Is there a company that will transport my husband and myself by car? We have booked to stay for 2 nights.
I really want to spend time here as I only got to spend an hour there on a previous trip.

    • Nuremberg to Bamberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber by public transport

      Nürnberg Oct 29, 2014 at 10:44 PM

Planning 2 separate day trips (with wife) to Bamberg and Rothenburg from the Leipziger Platz area of Nuremberg.

Originally, I planned to use my DB 'twin pass' to each destination, since the cost for the added days is much cheaper than individual train tickets for the 2 of us. However, now I see another option: The VGN Day Ticket (price level 10). According to the VGN web site, the one ticket costs €17.50 and is good for the both of us, that is, it is a 'twin' ticket in our case.

      Questions:
      (1) Can someone from the Nuremberg area confirm that the VGN Day Ticket includes both Bamberg and Rothenburg and that it would indeed cost us only €17.50 per day for BOTH of us?
      (2) I understand from the site that the VGN Day Ticket includes all travel on the Nuremberg area U-bahn, S-bahn, and buses, so that with that ticket we can both travel from Leipziger Platz to the Nuremberg Hbf, then to Bamberg or Rothenburg, return to Leipziger Platz in Nuremberg, then go out for that same evening somewhere in Nuremberg - all costing us only €17.50?
      (3) If the above is correct, where can one buy the VGN Day Ticket? At any U- or S-bahn station?
      (4) Getting to Rothenburg by train is somewhat of a nuisance and inefficient, as one has to transfer TWICE for such a short journey. Is there an alternate public transport way to get there (e.g., bus) which is direct and also included in the VGN Day Ticket?

      I thank you very much.

It says eu4.95 or eu19.95 per week to signup for Telekom hotspots. Saw this while in Frankfurt.

We'll be traveling to Munich and Essen also. Wondering if Telekom hotspots are widely available or at least in the places in travelling to.

      Munich in January?

      Munich Oct 8, 2014 at 11:07 AM

      Hello!

In January I have a semester break for 1 month and with spontaneous lust, I decided to visit Munich for 7-8 days, most likely after January 16.
I'm actually not a winter person and not that fond of snow-covered sights. I'm also on a tight budget, so most of the time I prefer travelling in summer, in order to enjoy the place I visit at most.

What attracts me most about Munich is its nature and the cosy feeling it gives. I'm sure that it'll be cosy, but not sure if I can enjoy sightseeing when it's too cold, since winter in Istanbul (2-3°C) is already cold for me.

Do you think if I would still enjoy Munich in January? Or do you think that I should put off my trip to summer?

      Thanks a lot in advance,
      Melis

      Munich next Tuesday

      Bavaria Sep 13, 2014 at 4:29 AM

I am taking some friends to Southern Bavaria next week. We will be close to Munich on Tuesday, Sept. 16. I want to stop and show them Marienplatz, Frauenkirche, hopefully eat at the Hofbrauhaus, etc, where would be a good place to park for about 5 hours? We'll be driving from Mainz, heading to Grainau, where we will stay and spend a couple days visiting Newschwanstein, Hohenschwangau, etc.
      Thanks!!

      Have 1 1/2 days in Munich -

      Munich Sep 7, 2014 at 6:08 PM

We only have 1 1/2 days in Munich. These are the things I would like to see while we're there. Is this possible in that amount of time? (please check my itinerary below)
      Old Town Munich
      Marienplatz
      Viktualienmarket
      Munich Residenz
      St. Peter's Church
      English Garden

Would like to spend a few hours at Oktoberfest on our last evening. In that case, we won't go to Hofbrauhaus as there will be lots of places to have a pint of beer there.

      Thank you,
      Mickey

      Munich Sep 7, 2014 at 12:45 PM

Travelling in pairs ... is there a 50% discount ticket for that ?

I have read somewhere that while travelling in pairs within Germany over long distances (4 plus hours ) ,it would be worth buying a 50% off or 2 for 1 or companion ticket .It could save as much as 150 Euros on a ticket.

Where do I get to buy such a ticket ?

I need to buy a combination of single journey, day tickets and XXL tickets for my time in the city. Is it possible to buy all these tickets in one go, and to validate each one as I use it. ? I would buy a 4 day inner zone ticket, but I want to go to Dachau,in the outer zone, and a 4 day outer zone ticket would be a waste. Also, does anyone know what the exchange rate is if I change GBP to Euro in Munich ? .....be there next week. Thanks
