Bad reichenhall and lake trip...HELP

by RaginiPai Online Now Feb 2, 2013 at 10:44 AM

Hello,
My 10 year old daughter, my husband and myself are planning a trip to Austria in March. From Salzburg, we are planning a day trip to Bad Recichenhall(salt mine and inhalitorium) and then lake Königssee and back to Salzburg. Is this doable in a day? Please suggest the best route(trains, buses) for the trip.... And is bayern ticket the best option? please suggest...

Yes, it is doable, and yes, the Bayernticket (Bavaria Ticket) is most likely the best option.

However, I would consider going to Königssee first and then Bad Reichenhall, so at around noon, the possibly warmest and brightest time of the day, I would be at the lake and not in some mine.

If the Gradierhaus/Inhalatorium has a beneficial effect on your health, than certainly not if you only spend two hours on one singe day, though. Still, it could be relaxing.

If it comes to the salt mines, I found the one in Berchtesgaden a little bit more impressing than the one in Bad Reichenhall. But this was ages ago, 2005. We visited both on one day.

Maybe it was the way how we "entered" the mine: in an old miners' train, and were dressed all up in miners' clothes.

Thank u so much for ur advices...Trekki, I will go with ur advice and go for the salt mine in Berchtesgaden. Is it a very long walk from Berchtesgden hbf or is there a bus/taxi available? I am thinking of my daughter if the walk is too long....

@RaginiPai: according to the website it is 30 min walk from the train station:
    salzzeitreise.de/en/your-vis...
Or you take the bus no 840 from Berchtesgaden main station. Here is the schedule:
    albus.at/files/2011/12/Fahrp...
It takes 5 minutes and there seems to be a bus every hour.

I just checked it on the map, it might be a nice walk, but depending on the weather only. Bus would be better.
Here is a map for download:

click on the "push here" link above the map, that means download :-)
