To Salzburg you can travel easily and cheaply on regional trains using the Bavaria ticket of Deutsche Bahn (www.bahn.de).

In the wider Munich region you can use the subway and local trains (S-Bahn). They take you to all the interesting places. In some cases you might have to change from S-Bahn to a bus, for example, if you want to visit the former concentration camp in Dachau.

The public transport network is fantastic:

They have a variety of day passes and multi-day passes. You just have to make rough plans to find out which tickets suit best:

For the journey to S,burg you can use a Bavariaticket, it is valid as far as the s,burg station, you can buy this on the day from a ticket machine. Baavariaticket is a day pass valid for the state of Bavaria valid after 9a,m, weekdays and all day weekends, a single is about E22. It is a Pass. The multiperson one is valid 2 - 5 persons travelling together and costs about E29.
They can be used for public trnsport on the s-bahn in Munich as well as regional trains.
