If you are talking about St. Kitts, Basseterre is the capitol. The port is Port Zante. To take the sugar can train, you pick up a bus or taxi ride at the port, go the Needsmust sation and ride the train to LaValle Station where you get the bus back to the port.

The trip takes about 3 hours, has upper and lower seats in the cars, and they offer free drinks and have a gude and usually some entertainment- singers, story tellers, etc.

I don't know how much it costs- but you can pick up a trip including bus and train tickets at Port Zante- you don't have to go through the cruise ship.

Try : Stkittsscenicrailway.com for more info. It's really pretty cool, and a good way to get an overview of St. Kitts, and the roles sugar production, rum and slavery were intertwined in the Caribbean. You do see Brimstone Hill (the Gibraltar of the West Indies) from a distance, and you will see some of the rain forest.

Hope this helps-have a great time! Kitts is my all time favorite island in the Caribbean. When you get back downtown (Basseterre), if you are near the Circus (roundabout in the middle of town) head upstairs at the Ballyhoo and have a Carib beer while you watch people down below.
