I will be arriving in CDG on a Sunday/May 2012 to do self supported cycle trip (two traveling). Would like to take train immediately out to Pontorson (or another station close to Mont Saint Michel). I am having problems figuring out the train schedule and which ones we can take bike on. Would I need to take train from CDG into Paris and then out? Hoping to be able to depart from CDG by 4:00 pm. Suggestions? Would like to get to Pontorson (or close by) Sunday evening – would that be possible with the train schedule? Any recommendations for accomodations near MSM for two nights, bike friendly. Then want to take train up to Saint Lo or CAEN Area - any suggestions? Next, will I have any problems getting accomodations on VE day (May 8th) ? I was only planning on booking the first two nights of our trip. Will be cycling the Normandy area for 8 days. Thanks!
Does anyone know how to get to Bayeux or Caens from Mont St Michel by public transportation or if there is a shuttle service? The trains seem to not be working at the moment.
i am comtemplating spending overnight 17 Nov in MSM, then go over Saint Malo to walk around the rampants on 18 Nov before travelling back to Paris. I cant seem to find bus schedule information from MSM to Saint Malo. Can someone please advise?
Hello! I'm loving Bayeux. I will be leaving Caen in a couple days. How do I get from the city to Ouistreham to catch the ferry to UK? Is there any kind of shuttle? Or do I have to take a taxi? ,if so how much €€ My ferry leaves at 8:30am Thanks for you help Rod.
It is just that . I am trying to find someone who knows the route and who can tall me if I can do the trip without having to go over any high bridges like the Pont de Normandie or the Viaducts on the A16. I suffer from Acrophobia ( terror of heights ) and cant go over high structures of any kind. Thanks
Hello again... I am looking a recommendation for Car Hire company for my visit in Caen. There are many suppliers/brokers online, but would rather deal with a reputable company, in good standing. Any suggestions would be great! and something close to the rail station. Thanks so much
Where can I find gites in or around Bayeux for a family of five? Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks
I will be in Normandie in early September. Where in your opinion, is the best city/town to stay for 3 nights while exporing the beaches, sites, CDN memorial cemetry etc. I was thinking Caen, as we are taking the ferry to Portsmouth after our visit, but know im uncertain. Any particular hotel as well? Any advise?? Many thanks
I am planning a trip for my extended family. We have 12 people in our group. (ages 18-70). We would like to visit Paris, Normandy (DDay Beaches) and Mont St. Michel. The only time we can travel together is over the Thanksgiving holidays. I keep getting mixed information regarding the weather. How cold is it? How much daylight? (i've heard from as little as 3 hours of daylight to 8 hours.) I would very much appreciate anyone who has been there in November/December to share their experience with me... I'm so confused. Would you go at that time or put it off for a few years? Thank you in advance, KKJ
Hello all, This may seem a little a little off-topic, but I need a little help from brandy Connoisseurs. I bought a bottle of 15 year "Marquis de la Pomme" from a liquor boutique in Caen. When I got home, out of shear ignorance, I couldn't get the hard, black seal off without macerating the cork. With the cork totally destroyed, I have replaced it with your typical wine stopper. Taking under consideration it is made out some sort of rubber stopper material, do I need to find natural cork to retain the flavor and quality over a period of time? Thanks! Henry
I want to visit and pray at Fr. Belliere's grave, I have been told if I take the bus from Cean to Langrune I just look for the church with the big steeple and the grave yard is next to it. Can anyone verify if this is correct, if this is indeed where he is buried and can I visit the cemetery or is it locked and will I have to prearrange with the church (I do not know its name) to visit his grave, any assistance is greatly appreciated, Kevin
I am traveling from the US to Normandy to visit many of the sites connected with St. Therese of Lisieux this October and want to visit the grave of Maurice Bellaire in Langrune, I will not have a car, is there public transportation from Caen to Langrune or is there some inexpensive way to visit, I think a taxi would be too expensive, thank you for any assistance or advice
If we take a train from Paris to Rouen, or even drive, how far is Honfleur from Rouen?
Hi there, We will be at a wedding in Granville in early July and would like to visit Mont Saint Michel on one of our spare days. We're taking a train to Granville from Paris so we will not have a car. Does anyone know the best way to get to MSM from Granville using train/bus? Is it a big hassle to get there without a car? If necessary I could look into renting a car, but if public transit is easy enough, I would prefer that. Thanks in advance for any help!
Hello. I live in north east England and would like to visit Bayeux, especially to visit the tapestry, but am also interested in seeing local scenery and any nearby chateux or vinyards. Do you know of any organised holidays from England that would take in these interests? I do not want to drive but am Ok with trains or coaches. Thank you
Hi everybody, My wife and I are going to visit Mont St Michel in September, and I wonder if it is necessary to book online a ticket for the abbey or if you can purchase the ticket when arriving. Also, we will spend the night in a hotel within the walls. Is there a time when the entrance is closed or we will be able to walk around (inside and even outside the MSM) until any time we want? Thanks, Ruben
I'll be staying in Broadstairs, Kent in June. Was wondering if I could nip across the channel and visit Mont-saint-michel without having to go to Paris first. Also interested in visiting Bruges (?spelling) in Belgium. Perhaps the Eurostar might go to Brussels and I could go to these 2 places from there. Any suggestions please? We are staying just outside Honfleur this summer and would like to visit Paris for the day and were hoping to travel by train, being the quickest and easiest. However, I have checked out Europe Rail but can't seem to find a direct route from Rouen, which I assume would be the closest main line station. Can anyone suggest a direct route to Paris that won't take hours, perhaps from another station please? Many thanks.
Hello all Has anyone tried booked accomodation or stayed in this hostel? I was on the HI hostel website, and this hostel doesn't take online bookings. So i emailed the hostel and they told me (in broken English) that i had to ring 4 days before my visit to reserve my bed. For me, this is a bit un-nerving since i am worried there will be no beds free if i leave it that late to visit. Any thoughts on this anyone? DG
What is the approxiamate cost of a taxi from the ferry terminal to Hotel Ambassadeur?
Are there scheduled buses between Caen and Thury-Harcourt?
Can someone who's walked around both MSM and the town of Beauvoir tell me please how much distance approximately is the Hotel Mercure from the Hotel St Aubert? I've done some research for buses from Pontorson train station and it says the bus will drop us off at the Hotel Mercure but not sure how much further the walk is to our hotel St Aubert. Google maps are incredibly useless for actual measuring...please and thanks!
Hi, can anyone tell me the local supermarket i was in courseulles-su-mer about 2 yrs ago. We had such a great time and stayed in Hotel de Paris we are booked in again in 3 weeks. I remember a large supermarket a few miles away. thank you

Hi there, We (Myself, the Wife and her Parents) are going to France this May and are presently building an itinerary. We plan on spending 3 nights in Caen or nearby and doing a tour there, then staying at MSM for a night. We've then got 3 days to get to Paris (driving) and would love some suggestions of places to visit/stay along the way, say 2 or 3 onvernight stops. Ideally i would love a tour of some wineries and i'd love to stay in a castle. I'd probably like to keep the driving to max of 4 hours a day if possible. From what i've read Overlander or Battlebus are the better tours in Normandy? I think we'll stay inside MSM for the night as the post-tourist experience sounds lovely, (i'll be sure to ask for a bayview room) however having read the food reviews i thought it might be better to have dinner off the Mont, any suggestions for a nice evening feed would be greatly appreciated. (i assume it's still safe to drive back across the causeway at hightide?) Thanks in advance! Justin.
As luck would have it, I have booked 2 nights at the St Aubert hotel (at the end of the causeway, mainland side) for April 18 and 19. Since there is supposed to be a full moon on April 17, what should I expect to see for tides and position of the full moon for the morning of the 19th, when I have planned to walk the causeway in the early morning to the Mont to take photos. High tides? Should I expect any problems walking to the Mont, and returning from it in the evening?
How do the tide times affect people doing a day trip by train and bus from Paris? What should we know about this?
