Is it possible to stop off at Strasbourg or Mulhouse with a Paris to Basel TGV Lyria ticket? Cheers
Maybe you can't as you should book a different seat for a different journey (I guess) www.tgv-lyria.com/main/FCK/File/site_en/the_journey/on_board/customs_ticket_check.asp

Buy a TGV ticket for Paris - Strassbourg, and then in Strassbourg just buy a TER ticket for Basel. Than you can visit Mullhouse without much trouble.

The spammer who locates Georgia on the Strasbourg-Basel route has been reported and will be deleted soon.

I dont quite understand the Strasbourg Basel route business but after seeing that BS a few times I gave them a piece of my mind. Please boycott that company in your travels!

Many thanks for all the replies. Maybe I should rephrase my question. Am I safe to assume that there is no Mr. Train Inspector who will fine me if I change my mind and choose to get off at Strasbourg or Mulhouse with a Paris-Basel ticket? Sound like a silly question, but one can never be too cautious. p.s pampochka is hilarious!

Nobody cares if you leave the train at an earlier station. That's totally fine. The point is continuing your journey after the stopover. For that second leg you need another ticket/reservation.

I dont find that forum abuse very funny myself - oh and I just got the kindof joke about the route - Georgia seems to be like God in this case, omnipresent - I think the best idea is just buying two tickets, as suggested - if you are not sure how long you want to stay, maybe you can get open tickets, or the second ticket right there - I knot know what a Lyria ticket is, but generally TGV tickets are precise reservations - not open tickets - although changing them ahead of the departure time is not a big deal, I think they take 10 or 15%, I am not sure, in some cases maybe nothing....

Generally speaking the ticket rules in France are: - Tickets for a train with compulsory reservation (all TGV) cannot be used on trains without a compulsory reservation. If you want to take another train the the one your reserved you must exchange your ticket, which you may or may not be able to do, depending on the tariff. - Tickets are valid for 24 hours after being "composted". So with tickets for non reserved trains you can interupt your voyage, and continue on a train without compulsory reservation, as long as you stay within the validity of your ticket. So in this case I would do the following: Buy a ticket Paris - Basel that doesn't involve the direct TGV, but in stead buy on that is valid for the TGV between Basel and Strassbourg, and for the regional (TER) trains from Strassbourg to Basel. For example: Buy on www.sncf.fr a ticket Paris - Basel for the 7:24 departure. you'll get a ticket valid on this TGV departure, and a ticket valid on the TER trains between Strassbourg and Basel. Than you can travel from Strassbourg to Basel at leasure, breaking your trip where you fancy, as long as you stay on TER trains.
