Hi @ all, We'll stay 4-5 days in Barcelona at the end of February. Would you recommend Carrer Sicilia? Is this a good place to discover the city? Sagrada Familia doesn't seem to be too far, but I'm not yet informed about the City, to be true. Any suggestions? As always, your helpful answers will be well appreciated. Thanks in advance and a happy new year to you all. Nic

    • Beach towns near Barcelona

by jmcgill Online Now Jan 4, 2015 at 3:20 PM

Hi all. This my first posting on VT. We are two retired couples traveling to Spain and Portugal next September for almosta month. We are flying into Barcelona on Sept 6 and thought it would be nice to head to one of the nice beach towns north or west of Barcelona for the first few days as we settle into the time zone! A nice sea view would be lovely, and somewhere where we can easily walk out to local restqurants . I've done some research and can't decide between somewhere like Tossa de mar in the Costa Braga or maybe around d Cambrils in Costa Dorada. Thoughts would be so appreciated. We were not planning to rent a car until later in our trip, so we will be making our way from Barcelona Into. Airport. Then we would move on to Barcelona., Madrid, etc. Before heading to Portugal.

      Hello,

My husband and I (both in our early 30s) are going to be in Barcelona mid May for 4-5 nights. What's the best are to stay in? I was looking at maybe the Gothic Quarter?
Are there places we should take day trips to nearby that we can take the train to?
Is 4 nights enough or do we need 5? We will be taking the train to France for the rest of the trip.

      Thanks!

We are hoping to travel from Barcelona to Madrid on Saturday September 12. I have found flights, but was wanted to check out the options by train. I am at the renfe site (I think) and can't seem to get a schedule for that day. It seems to be asking me to change dates. Does that make sense that there would be no train on a Saturday between Barcelona and Madrid? Anyone able to help? Thanks so much!

Safety & crowds in wintertime BCN

by mimiR88 Online Now Nov 12, 2014 at 4:10 AM

I will be in BCN from the 8th of December till the 12th of December with my boyfriend, and I have 2 questions: the one is about safety, the other is about the number of the tourists in BCN at this time of the year.

      1. I have read tons of articles and forums about the safety in Barcelona, but I would like to be sure that I understand well the situation. The most important thing is: violent crime is very rare in BCN, am I right? I am asking this because I have booked a private room in a quite nice looking hostel (Uranie Barcelona) on carrer de Ferran 19., for an extremely low price (122 euros for 4 nights for 2 ppl is nearly unbelievable and the bookingcom reviews are all quite nices about this place), so I would be very happy to keep this booking if you say the situation is not that bad there as I am thinking right now. We would like to discover the city (mostly on foot) by the daytime, but also, definitely would like to go out in the evenings and return to the hostel around midnight or a little after that. My question is if we wear a money belt under our clothes and at night stay on the bigger roads (carrer de Ferran, via Laietana) there won't be any problem, right? In general, are there less pickpockets in the winter?

      2. Are there less tourists in the winter? A few years ago I visited BCN in the middle of the summer and the crowds were enormous, we had to buy all our tickets to skip the queues. Do you think in the winter it is also necessary to buy all tickets in advance, or we can easily enter the places when we want? (We would like to visit Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera, Parc Güell, Fundacion Miro, Picasso Museum)

      Thank you very very much!
