We arrive at Barcelona airport after 16h00 (28 May 2012)and have to drive to Canet-Plage in FRance. What would be the best road to take? We heard of delays at Barcelona and Perpignan and is curious to know more. Any help?
We have done this route several times in both directions and have often found traffic very busy leaving/approaching Barcelona and on the outskirts of Perpignan. It is however a straightforward route mainly on motorways and I suggest you look at viamichelin to get the itinerary and driving times - http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Routes It is around 175 miles and by the time you leave the airport, collect the car and get on the road you may want to use as much as the remaining day light to complete the journey. But whilst you are at Canet-Plage I do recommend the drive taking the coast road to Collioure ( a favourite place of mine) and from there on down to Port Vendres and Banyuls . From Collioure onwards the coastal views are spectacular.

Hi, You'll probably have traffic in Barcelona at that time of the day, but you'll be on the motorway, either the B10 along the waterfront or the B20 inland. There's no real way round this, seeing where the airport in Barcelona is situated and direction north to Girona and Perpignan. I would opt for the B20 inland around the outskirts of Barcelona. By the time you have got up to Perpignan, it will be around 19h00 or later so traffic will be minimal and even then, when you leave the motorway it is an urban motorway to Canet. But as Barbara suggests, have a look at viamichelin first to get an idea of how you're going to do it.
