Hello; Can anyone give me suggestions on how to get from Barcelona to Lisbon by train and/or air? Which airline should I choose? Is the train more reasonable? Thanks..bob
well, by plane is certainly cheaper and faster (check edreams...there are tikets also at 50-60 euros), but the train is not so bad: it depends how much time you have and if you want to enjoy a "long trip". It's gonna be VERY long...give a look on www.renfe.es

The train journey would not be to my taste at not less than 14 hours - (transfer at Madrid and overnight train). As far as I am aware vueling and spanair fly this route and probably cheaper than train.

Plane is the best cause train is a long ordeal.....Vueling I believe is the low cost carrier in Spain....look it up on the web and book your flight early for the low prices. cheers tommy x

Train will be only a good option if have a few days for that trip, with some stops and sightseeing in between. If you only want to go from A to B, flying will be cheaper (and of course faster). Check Vueling and TAP. When buying a few months in advance you can fly BCN-LIS for 30€. Both companies are fine, just choose the cheaper on your dates or with more convenient flight times.

Barcelona to Lisbon by train is really easy. You travel from Barcelona (Sants station) to Madrid (Atocha station) by high speed train at 186 mph through the Spanish countryside in 2 hours 40 minutes. You could catch an early evening train, say 5pm or travel earlier and have a stroll round Madrid. They run every hour or so throughout the day. Then the excellent 'Trainhotel Lusitania' sleeping-car service leaves Madrid Chamartin station at 22:25 arriving Lisbon Santa Apolonia in downtown Lisbon at 07:41 next morning. A rail adventure, rather than another souless flight. Barcelona-Madrid starts at 48 euros booked at www.renfe.com. Madrid-Lisbon costs 79 euros in a 4-bed Tourist sleeper, or 99 euros in a 2--bed 'Preferente' sleeper with breakfast included, also booked at www.renfe.com with self-print tickets. There are also some 'Gran Clase' sleepers with private shower and troilet, the Gran Clase fare includes a 3-course dinner with wine in the elegant restaurant car (other classes can also have this, it just costs extra for them) and breakfast. There's also a proper bar with long wooden bar and bar-stools. A really nice train! The restaurant car opens at 21:00, even before departure. In time-effectiveness terms, it is practically as fast as flying plus a hotel.
