Hello I will be with my wife and 8 year old for 5 days in early August (10th - 15th or 16th). I have to be back in Bangkok to catch a flight home on the 23rd. This gives me 6 - 8 days to go somewhere else. I can stay in Thailand and go to Chiang Mai or Ko Samui. Any recommendations? Also, I am not opposed to visiting another country altogether like Vietnam etc.... I have read that either way, I should book it in Bangkok at a local travel agency.Your feedback is most welcome. Definitely not a backpacker, but willing to be adventurous with raft excursions/zipline/cooking classes etc.... Thanks

Chiang Mai is not a bad choice, plenty of day trips to elephant camps which your son would enjoy, rafting too, and for sure check out "Flight of the gibbons" which is a Zip-lining area in the mountains where we managed to see one gibbon. You will be picked up at your hotel, drive to the HQ , 20+zips, absailing down a couple of trees, lunch etc---great day out when we did it last year. Muay Thai kick boxing, Doi Suthep hill and Wat, night market, plenty of good restaurants and reasonable priced hotels. Check out my Cgiang Mai pages. Another consideration would be Seam Riep, where Angkor Wat is situated, probably exciting for your son. You can also stay on a house on stilts on Ton Le Sap lake. Plenty of quality accommodation and excellent restaurants in the area. Hope this is of help.

Well my dear if I was you, Chiang Mai or Ko Chang would be my first priorities, mainly because you are travelling with your wife and kids, and this is indeed true that you will have plenty of options to choose from whereas entertaining activities for your kid too. And if you are open to visiting another country all together then I would rather suggest Malaysia or Singapore rather than Mayanmar or Indonesia since Singapore and Malaysia offer exotic beaches resorts yet the city life at the same time.

I would go to Cambodia, Siem Reap and his Angkor Tempels are beautiful. I also enjoyed Phnom Penh very much! Have fun
